Veterinary Data Services interview questions

I applied for a remote position and received an email asking me to contact their in-house recruiter to schedule an interview. After sending over my availability to the recruiter I was asked to send personal information so HR could run a background check on me and start the on-boarding process...all before even scheduling my preliminary interview. The recruiter would not schedule the interview until I sent over that information. I questioned why they needed that information so early on in the process and informed them that I felt VERY uncomfortable sending that information before even meeting with anyone and learning more about the position and the company. I was told this was their standard procedure - to "confirm all documents provided are yours." I declined to do this and not did schedule an interview. This is a super weird policy, for remote positions or in-house, that I'm sure would make others uncomfortable also. It caught me very off guard so be aware that they may ask for personal information right off the bat.
