      I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Walgreens (Deerfield, IL) in Mar 2010

      Interview

      I applied Feb 23, 2010, received first phone call on March 12, which was a pre-interview to talk about my experience. The questions that were asked were what kind of reports did I run in my previous jobs, the value of selecting the right employee, it was very informal and relaxed, but I was keenly aware that the person conducting phone interview knew nothing of my profession. I then got a call back for a 1:1 the following week, we discussed when I could meet, I only said the following Friday I was available, but the next day I got an email that I needed to show up on the following Tuesday, so that was ignored and that wasn't a good sign for me. I was also told in the email I would meet first with one individual then speak with a recruiting officer after the interview ended. I went to the Tuesday interview, which I believe was on the 23rd of March, and I signed in with a receptionist who seemed very bored and aggravated she got interrupted by a visitor. This also made me wonder about the company and how they treat employees. I then was buzzed into another door, where I was met with a typical 20+ HR rep who herded me along with the other candidates to sit in a waiting room. I was in the waiting room for about 3 minutes when I was greeted by the actual interviewer, and then was surprised to see that it was a panel interview of 3 instead of what the previous email stated. This was fine by me, I like those interviews better, but I was really starting to wonder about how organized this company was being that HR and the receptionist couldn't even get their part right. The interview lasted about an hour, where it seemed my resume was kind of dictated back to me. I don't recall any questions that asked me to expand on my knowledge or skills, and each of the people seemed very personable and knowledgeable, and I was impressed by them. The last question of the interview was "we are planning to make a decision by end of next week, what would be your availability to start" and I stated my answer and felt that the interview was easy, but I didn't feel like they were trying to get a sense of who I was or what I could do. It felt kind of like a formality. I then parted with the panel and returned to the waiting room where I let the HR receptionist know that I was to meet with a HR Recruiter named Kathleen. I was asked to have a seat, and I waited for 25 minutes, then was told by the receptionist that she threw her back out and wouldn't be able to meet and handed me her business card and told me that Kathleen would be calling me in the next couple of days, don't worry about calling her she'll call you (a line that from the tone of her voice sounded like she's repeated it 100 times before). I thought seriously? I've waited here 25 minutes and now you get a call? I then thought what a waste of my time, what a waste of the interviewers time, and this did not give me a good impression of the company. I never did hear from Kathleen, I did call back 2 weeks later to follow up and ask if they wouldn't mind sharing what helped shaped their decision, I got voice mail and was never given a return call. 2 days later (April 19) I received 2 - YES TWO - separate emails, both worded differently, giving 2 different reasons of why they decided not to hire anyone at this time. The emails were sent 20 minutes apart. ??? I do not have an opinion of whether this is a good place or bad place to work, but I usually judge a company based on the approachability of the people who make the first impressions, how satisfied they look in their jobs, and how well the interview process goes, and this company failed in a few ways. If I had received a call back from Kathleen, I would have asked some more questions about the company's culture and made up an excuse to speak with a couple of members of the panel again so I could get a better feel of what the company was like, because HR and the receptionist didn't represent like I feel that those important positions should. I wish I could give advice, but I honestly am not sure I would advise anyone to pursue a position at this company, it just didn't feel like it was a good place to work.
