      Compliance Manager Interview

      Apr 24, 2018
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Boston, MA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Wayfair (Boston, MA) in Apr 2018

      Interview

HR screen, phone interview with the local hiring manager, four interviews at HQ. HR was good as was the hiring manager. Understood the role and were clear on what a successful candidate needed to bring to the table. Genuinely seemed open to non-retail backgrounds. Two out of four interviewers seemed to understand I was a different candidate profile and were engaged in understanding how my experience could translate to the role. The one who did my case study was late, manic, and didn't pay attention to me. To be fair it started ok but then he actually just kept talking over me and it was hard to engage. This was epecially problematic as I tried to work through the basic math I needed to do for the case and it got worse as the hour progressed. It was so over the top I actually assumed it was a part of the process to try to throw me by repeating various numbers as I was doing math, to the point I considered saying something to the recruiter (and really the only reason I'm even writing this) then stated the case wasn't even for the role I was interviewing for and not really a big deal. He also basically explained everyone is afraid Amazon is going to move in the space and run them out of business...not a great message to a potential employee The last person was a bust, he was awkward and didn't really ask me anything beyond the standard "tell me about a process you improved" and barely listened to the answer then told me WAY too much about an old issue relating to their stock that, to be frank, they handled terribly if what he said was accurate, and likely should never have been told to an external person (again to the point I kept asking myself if it was a behavioral test of some sort) I knew by the end there wasn't going to be an offer which is disappointing when you knew it was driven by people you'd never work for. I was very interested after speaking to hiring manager and HR and the second interviewer but after the last two I didn't really feel confident about the long term prospects and it was a relief to get a quick call that they were passing. It felt like it wasted everyone's time and money. Also they made a point to mention repeatedly they pay below market so adjust your expectations accordingly.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Talk about a challenging employee you've managed, talk about processes you've improved, varations on those two questions across interviewers. Cases were straightforward calculations to pick a better option of two proposed ideas.
