      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at WeddingWire (Washington, DC) in Sep 2015

      Interview

There were three rounds of interviews. First the phone interview, then the in-person interview at WeddingWire HQ in Friendship Heights, and then a phone pitch at the end. Not everyone goes through the 3 rounds. They are looking for someone who will be a good cultural fit and have qualities of a resilient and persistent, but not pushy, salesperson.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at WeddingWire (Chevy Chase, MD) in Dec 2018

      Interview

I applied online and the next day got an email about a phone interview. The screening was quick and easy. I then scheduled a time for the in-house interview and tour and I flew to DC. I prepared for this interview like crazy because of the reviews on Glassdoor - I was honestly terrified, it sounded like an awful experience for so many. So I memorized every answer to the most horrific questions I could find and practiced the dumbest mock pitches like selling a pen or ice. On interview day I showed up to the Weddingwire floor and literally no one paid attention to me... apparently they are renovating so they currently don't have a front desk. I walked around for a solid 5 minutes before a UPS guy showed up and someone actually acknowledged him, so then I was directed to the recruiter. Awkward start. The tour was quick and easy, the "overview" of the position was literally so fast I barely remember what was even said. Then was the interview - like I said I was terrified, but honestly it wasn't bad at all. No major curveball questions. My interviewers both seemed genuinely interested in me and I even had a guy (which, there are only a few, so I was worried he was the "mean one.") I did have to do an on the spot sales thing which I handled pretty well, definitely made a few mistakes. My mouth got super dry so definitely take a bottle of water with you! After that I shadowed a rep for about 40 minutes. She basically got a lot of answering machines, I never heard an actual pitch. I was feeling super #blessed that I didn't have to do a phone pitch afterwards - not sure if that was a sign that I wasn't getting hired or that we just used up all the time - because we did. A few days later I had one more phone interview. This is where my interview experience went very south. The sales manager who called me probably ruined my whole opinion of WeddingWire. She called me about 15 minutes behind the scheduled time and the entire phone call it was so obvious that she was uninterested. She sounded like she wasn't paying attention to me at all, and scrambling to come up with answers to my questions like she didn't know what I was talking about, and then to finish she rushed me off the phone. Maybe she had something going on, but it really aggravated me and made me almost not want the job. But still, I thought for sure I would get an offer. I was definitely qualified and had a really good interview, not sure what the problem was. I got an email a few days later saying there were "too many candidates" which I think is interesting because it seems like WeddingWire is ALWAYS hiring for sales associates. It's fine though, from what I read here on Glassdoor I probably definitely wouldn't have thrived there. And I never write reviews, but wanted y'all to not get freaked out about the interview like I did because it really wasn't that bad.

Thanks for your thoughtful review of your interview experience at WeddingWire. As a company that emphasizes the importance of consumer feedback, we discuss reviews like yours on a regular basis. We look to improve the quality of our candidate experience while simultaneously ensuring we are selecting candidates who become successful employees. We take the feedback very seriously and often make changes to our process as a result of reviews- i.e. we no longer do mock pitches based on candidate feedback. As I read through your review, a few things stick out to me and I'd like to take a moment to highlight a few points- 1) YOU CARE! You clearly put a lot of time and energy into preparing for and considering WeddingWire as a potential employer. For that, my team and I are truly grateful. Changing jobs is a huge decision and its really great to read about your approach to your job search. 2) FRONT DOOR CHALLENGES I am really sorry. I have to say I cringed when reading your experience there. Yes, we are going through a renovation and our team thought we had worked out a clear system. Based on your feedback, we are working through a new arrival procedure in partnership with our building security team. 3) THE MANAGER SCREEN- I’m sorry you felt you didn’t have the manager’s full attention. We really work to create a candidate experience that is informative to the candidate and one where each candidate has an opportunity to put their best self forward. This feedback is helpful as we work on interview training for our managers and is a great example to stress the importance of being fully present during the interview process. Thank you again for taking the time to write your review. It was thoughtful and professional. I wish you all the best in your search and great success in 2019.
