I've always wanted to work here and thought applying for a seasonal position would be an excellent route to do so! I applied online and then about a week later I got a call inviting me to a group interview where we were supposed to wear workout apparel but never actually told to do so.
When I showed up to the interview, I was excited to see one of my friends as well get an opportunity to do the interview so it made the process a little easier. She although, had only applied the night before and got a call that night.
Interviewing was very basic, started with doing yoga, and then moved into doing basic group question exercises (like "speed-dating" type things). Seemed almost really fake but thought it was normal to not be so serious in finding only seasonal educators. Questions really had nothing to do with what your work experience was or how you do in work related situations. I left the interview feeling great and excited to see what was soon to come!
About three days later I got a phone call saying that they would like to continue the hiring process by having me fill out a background check and would let me know by Friday for sure if things will go through! I was so excited and even asked the lady on the phone if my background check came back clear if I had the job (knowing that it was unless there were some funky unknown felony that I may have unknowingly committed) and she clearly said "Yes, but only if the background check comes back clear."
Well Friday began to get closer and I became more excited, told a few people that I believe I got hired at Lululemon because it sounded like I for sure had the job already! Talked to my friend who also was interviewed, but she did not get a phone call to fill out the background check. She called the store and I guess they brought her in for further questioning to see if they wanted her. Told her they would email her the link to fill out the background check as well because they ended up liking her as well!
Friday came and went and I just thought they'd get back to me soon enough. I then got a phone call saying that they really loved me and really really want to bring me on the team, but they're having a miscommunication with corporate (or something like that) on how many people they are actually allowed to hire on to be seasonal educators and they just need to wait until Friday to have a for sure answer. I was thinking the entire time, well this must mean they really want me because why would they even bother telling me this if they weren't going to hire me? Maybe they didn't want me to start looking for another job and that's why they were telling me this? My friend did not receive one of these phone calls so it just seemed very strange and almost disorganized.
The Thursday night before the Friday that I was supposed to get the call, my friend texts me saying that she had received an email saying they want to hire her onto their team as an educator! I was excited and looked at my email but had not received anything. Thought it was strange that they wouldn't just email everyone at once saying they had either gotten the job or not to make things simpler.
The next day they called me saying that they again really loved me and really wanted me on the team but there were had over-expected the amount of people they were allowed to hire, and then offered me a "contract-position" where I would only be working Black Friday to help them get through the day. I was astonished, confused, and pretty upset that they would lead someone on into thinking that they had the job and then turn them down like that. In the mean time I could have been looking for other jobs but they had given me false hope for this one. Also thought it was very unprofessional of them to basically hire me before my friend, but then hire her over me because she asked for a second interview and they got to know her better whereas they never gave me the chance to do so. Simply did not make any sense. I'm happy for my friend, but very disappointed with how the hiring process worked. This company has probably lost my respect. Would have expected better from this company.
