Cooley specializes in business law, particularly venture capital and private equity, corporate securities, mergers and acquisitions, life sciences and technology transactions, and tax and real estate. The firm also has strength in litigation, with almost half of its 650 lawyers working in that area. Cooley has about 10 offices throughout the US, including four in its home state of California. Other offices are located in Boston; Broomfield, Colorado; New York; Reston, Virginia; Seattle; and Washington, DC. The firm was founded in 1920 as a law partnership by Arthur Cooley and Louis Crowley.
