From the moment Destiny started her traveler nurse assignment at Lovelace Westside, she knew something was different. “The sense of teamwork, support and genuine care for patients really stood out to me,” shares Destiny. Her connections with the staff, leaders and community ultimately led her to make the move from traveler to staff nurse. Paula, RN, started her journey at Lovelace Women’s Hospital as a new grad nurse. Like many new nurses, she quickly learned that launching a career comes with plenty of unknowns, but she’s never had to face them alone here. “Everyone is quick to step in and help when it’s needed,” Paula shares. “As a new graduate, there are moments when I’m unsure about what to do next. Since starting in the ED, my preceptors, charge nurses and department educator have checked in with me regularly and reminded me that this is all part of the learning process. Their patience, guidance and willingness to redirect when needed have made a huge difference in my confidence.” For Paula, it’s the everyday moments that make the culture stand out. “If I had to pick one best part of the day, it would be the time between huddle and bedside report — when the shift is just getting started.
