Description Upscale Internet grocer Ocado serves more than 262,000 time-pressed active customers in Greater London, Hertfordshire, Kent, the Midlands, Surrey, North West, and now the South Coast. Launched by three former Goldman Sachs bankers a decade ago, Ocado delivers groceries in Mercedes vans from its supermarket partner John Lewis Partnership-owned Waitrose Limited to the customer's doorstep. The online grocer fills an average of nearly 93,000 order per week, and boasts a service area covering more than 70% of British households. The average Ocado order tops £110, a rich price, but the firm's ability to turn a profit is still erratic. The Internet grocer went public in 2010.
