Originally incorporated in North Carolina in 1943, the company moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 1958 after an affiliation with the Insurance Company of the South, followed by a merger between the two companies in 1966. In January 1985, W. R. Berkley Corporation purchased Carolina Casualty.
