Formed by the the merger of Total eMed and EDiX Corp., Spheris provides medical transcription and other health care related outsourcing services to some 500 health systems, hospitals, and group practices. The company, which operates from locations in Florida, Tennessee, and Virginia, provides services throughout the US and Canada. Its staff includes more than 5,000 medical transcriptionists, nearly half of which are based in India. The company has grown through acquisitions, and with funding provided by Warburg Pincus and TowerBrook Capital Partners.
