The Chattanooga-Hamilton County Hospital Authority (dba Erlanger Health System) offers a broad range of health service operations, including the T.C. Thompson Children's Hospital, a cancer treatment facility, and centers devoted to heart treatment, trauma, and eye care. The system comprises five hospital campuses in Tennessee with some 820 acute care beds, as well as 50 long-term care beds. A teaching center for the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, Erlanger provides tertiary care for a region that includes southeastern Tennessee, northern Georgia, northern Alabama, and western North Carolina. The health system was founded with 72 beds in 1899.
