I worked at ASM full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great pay and benefits for an job that requires minimal training (EMT cert for EMT's) and minimal - if no - experience. You get a lot of experience in the field.

    Cons

Management doesn't seem to care much for their employees. Quick burnout. Easy to get hurt and the company will just find a way to throw you out. EMT's especially are expendable to this company.

I wouldn't plan on making a career here, but it isn't a terrible place to start.

    Advice to Management

Listen to you employees and work with them, not against them. An open-door policy means nothing if you don't respect or listen to the people who do the grunt work.

I have been working at ASM part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Somewhat decent hourly pay, flexible schedule, excellent co-workers (in the field, not necessarily in the office), always plenty of overtime available.

    Cons

The higher management recently changed and appears to be positive about making positive changes in the company, however middle management does not attempt to do any problem resolution and there is a consistent feeling of poor morale in the company. Quality improvement dosent attempt to improve the delivery of services. The dispatchers consistently hold road crews over and force them to work longer than the scheduled 12 hour shifts. Middle management manages through fear and constantly reminds crews that there are many other people willing to take their jobs instead of treating well performing employees as an asset to the company. As well the company model over the past several years has changed to reflect the model that American medical response follows, leading to low morale.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees, make them a part of the decision making processes. Understand that everyone has a vested interest in the company and wants to do well. Understand that our job conditions are much different than an office setting and that we are physically, mentally, and emotionally tired.

This company has some inexperienced Program Managers
