      Great Company with Great Leadership

      Pros

Leadership that really cares about the people Investment in employees and comp, very employee-centric and forward-looking company with a great purpose and bright future!

      Cons

Some changes can be tough for some individuals - unfortunate bi-product of change from small/medium size company top larger enterprise-ready organization. But it's to be expected.

Shiny on the outside, toxic from within.

      Pros

Many coworkers are great resources of support. Some of the smartest and hardest working people I’ve ever had the chance to work with.

      Cons

Serious lack of diversity, as hiring practices are both sexist and racist. Embarrassing shortage of leadership skills in upper management. Promises are broken regularly and retaliatory culture begets silence and fear should one express any displeasure with the cultural deficiencies that have been in place forever at the company. I would implore any prospective applicants to avoid this company, should these be things they care about.

      Total Boy Club Wasteland

      Pros

The actual projects you get to work on, and working with clients. There are some team member (who don't participate in the boys club) that are really kind and fun to work with.

      Cons

Mostly, it's a boys club. If you don't fit exactly in their little view and don't placate to their male-dominated ideals they stomp on you, give all of your projects to others, and fire you for 'things we talked about' without ever actually caring about your body of work. specifically, missed meetings that were scheduled while I was teaching, forgot to put a header in an email once, and pitched a question to a person next to me because I didn't clear it with 'the boss man' first. Masaginist leadership at all levels of the organization, EP isn't so bad but there is a lot of garbage humans running around at the top and in middle management. They only thing they care about is their own legacy and don't care who they hurt to get there. Don't know what instructional design is or how it is supposed to work, the firm was unable/willing to set clear measurable goals for subordinates. They created an atmosphere of fear and distrust. They put women in charge of non-promotable projects and encouraged men to apply for the position but did not do so for women. They set double standards between men and women. The team was horribly managed, undervalued, and you were always waiting for the day you were going to get fired. They said you could have an alternate schedule then would punish you for following that schedule.

      Great company and thoughtful people

Sep 25, 2020 - Software Engineer in New York, NY

      Pros

      - Good business outlook. Lots of new customers being signed regularly and new initiatives underway. - Good culture. There were no jerks on the team in my experience. People are quite thoughtful and respectful in discussions. I'm still friends with a lot of my former coworkers. Down to earth, too, which is somewhat rare for a Silicon Valley venture-backed company. - Good engineering culture. Willing to try out a lot of ideas while still having a necessary focus on keeping things robust.

      Cons

I was very young when I joined, and sometimes I made engineering mistakes that could've been avoided. A bit more training/oversight for fresh grad members of the team may be warranted in some cases.

      Unsteady Progress

      Pros

      * Great benefits, both health/life and everyday * Open culture, frequent company updates * Great business plan, solid prospects Great place to build skills, and potentially awesome opportunities to really elevate a tech stack if you're willing to put in serious work.

      Cons

      * Unsteady tech, fickle roadmap and lots of tech debt * Low coordination between teams/departments * Poor followup on abuse/disputes Unfortunately the engineering direction is inconsistent, and the tech debt is significant. People are working to fix that, but without full organizational buy-in. Individual teams have their own priorities and can be unwilling to compromise or adapt. There are several managers who are aggressive and over-direct, and communication with them is hit-or-miss.

      Collaborative Environment

      Sep 15, 2020 - Senior Software Engineer
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

      - People and teams typically work with one another rather than against one another - Large enough to support employees with solid benefits, perks, and compensation - Small enough that your work has a real impact on the direction of the company - Becoming more remote-friendly

      Cons

      - Engineering is a bit understaffed, so we don't always have the people needed to move as quickly as the business demands - Location-based salary structure (including cutting pay for current employees that relocate out of more expensive cities)

      Passionate Vibrant Culture

      Pros

      - Addepar Leadership cares about their employees, the company has responded fantastically to the COVID-19 situation - The culture is not perfect (whose is?) but the company actively works to live by the values - I seriously enjoy the people I work with because they are smart, talented, and passionate about their work - Great affinity groups and a culture of giving back

      Cons

It is a growing and nimble company and so if you are not comfortable with change, this may not be the place for you.
