I have been working at Advantech full-time

    Pros

-colleagues are smart and easy to work with
-flexible work schedule, as long as you put in 40hrs a week
    -family friendly culture
    -good medical, dental, vision insurance
    -401k matching
-very stable job if you’re just trying to get by
-the company is good for those that want job security, but terrible for those that want to grow and improve their skill set

    Cons

    -very high turnover
-internal competition; everyone’s fighting for each other’s accounts
    -everyone is overworked
-management is traditional, not open to change/new ideas
-company is cheap, too few resources going around
-pay is way below market value
-commission is only attained through meeting 70% of your quota each month. If you don’t meet that 70%, you receive nothing.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees as your most valuable assets. They’re the ones putting in effort to making the company rich. Stop being cheap! Employees aren’t just a number, so don’t treat them as such. Don’t micromanage your employees—you hired smart people, so trust that they’ll do the job right. Empower them instead.

I worked at Advantech full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    1. Company trip (this year to Big Island, Hawaii)
    2. Weekly Friday breakfast (company cooked to Catering Food)
    3. Monthly Friday lunch (fastfood to catering Food)
    4. Monthly/Quarterly bonus for sales related positions
    5. 10 hour/month accruing PTO
    6. Work from home policy after 1 years of employment (1 day per month to 4 days per month)
    7. Annual $1500 education fund to spend on any educational purpose events/programs of your liking
    8. Great health/dental/eye insurance plan
..there are more to come, company has pretty good benefits.

    Cons

    1. Long working hours, if you are bilingual Mandarin/English and work in a product sales related position be prepared for overtime concall with Taiwan HQ either early morning or late at night, HQ doesn't cater to RBU hours
    2. Chinese working culture, so appraisals for good work is not to be expected. However punishments will occur if the other way around
    3. Review meetings: weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, half a year kick of meetings, annual business reviews, prep yourself for tons of review meetings explaining your work to management beside doing the work itself
    4. Old school software technology with a lot of different platforms to learn and use or else work cannot be done

    Advice to Management

Take better care of your direct subordinates. Don't feel that you will spoil them if appraising them in front of the team for doing a good job. It's FREE and effective.

I have been working at Advantech full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It's an international company so you have the pleasure to work with a lot of different teams across time zones in a collaborative and dynamic environment.

The team is awesome because everyone specializes in something different - so you can definitely learn along the way. From selling tips and tricks through sales, how to conduct a solid meeting with management, prioritizing and balancing projects all marked "urgent", etc...

Advantech is a medium size company so there is a lot of flexibility with the team you might not get in bigger companies. With that said, you can expect to NEVER be bored, there is always something to do and special projects to work on. You can take ownership and pride in the work you execute.

    Cons

Like any company, there are lots of transitions and growing pains. Sometimes there are internal conflicts, so you have to think different and be flexible to see what you can do to achieve your goals.

Take the initiative, create actionable plans, be resourceful, and stay positive to keep yourself on track.

    Advice to Management

You already know!- Its tough to live in the silicon valley, lots of competition, and everything is getting more expensive. Its hard to keep good people if we keep the same model.

Well known reputation in the industry. Family oriented work environment with lots of room to learn and grow, They're sensitive to your needs and work with to attain both company and personal goals. Benefits include budget for expanding your training or education. Over all a great place to start in the embedded industry.

    Cons

Management changes direction every couple of years. With revenue growth being the only real focus. this leaves a lot to be desired from a billion dollar global company.

I worked at Advantech full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good Benefits, Bonuses, Paid family trip every 2 years.

    Cons

    1. Total Compensation Package is lower than industry standards
    2. No professionalism. They micro-manage you. All executives sit in Taiwan. The Leaders at this location are occupying those position because of seniority and not merit. Its just that when everybody left, they still stayed back. Managers know nothing better (sometimes less) than the employees.
    3. Work ethics are bad. People are cold. Its always quiet. You cannot talk to any colleague except your work for even 2 minutes.

    Advice to Management

    1. Bring newer and more able people.
    2. Retain good people.
    3. Invest more on your work culture

"Avoid unless you love working 10+ hour everyday"

    StarStarStarStarStar

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

The only pro I can think of is the friendly coworkers you get to work with (at least most of them anyway)

    Cons

    1. Ignorant and unappreciative management who thinks they know it all
    2. Underpaid for the amount of work done. Salary way below industry average

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees’ feedback during meetings. When every team tells you they’re overloaded, we mean we are overloaded. Stop telling your employees “Work smarter, not harder” and actually see that the company needs a lot more hires to operate properly. Stop being cheap.
