Good Work-Life Balance, Supportive Team
May 11, 2023 - Recruiting CoordinatorRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Immediate team had a great culture, very supportive and collaborative. The company is very used to remote work culture, so everything from onboarding through large company syncs are adapted around it. They still have office locations, so that's also an option. The company values are very apparent - people really do come first, be it yourself or your family.
Cons
No real opportunity for growth within the team, would have to leave for another branch of Talent or HR. Great when you're looking to gain new skills, but the team looks different every couple of years and they take their knowledge and relationships with them.

Pros
I loved working here. Incredible benefits, competitive pay, solid teams, smart people (mostly). I really believed in the mission and hoped to stay here.
Cons
Layoffs, obviously. Being gaslit by leadership (they said we didn't have layoffs when we did, in fact, have them in November). There is definite favoritism. Upper management is constantly over-involved in IC work, causing inefficiency and frustration among teams who actually do the work. Departments are siloed and leadership is way too focused on shipping products that don't work rather than taking a step back to reassess priorities. Work is instead prioritized by whatever the leader's opinions are that day. For a company that touts "People first" and transparency, it's super disappointing how layoffs were handled. They're never easy, but this was one of the worst I've seen in my career. It's honestly so disappointing because this company had so much potential. It's sad to see it flounder like this.

Pros

Not a bad place to work
Apr 23, 2023 - Staff Security Engineer in San Francisco, CARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Good benefits, pay was good
Cons
Management lacks control over the org. No clear direction and lacking processes to measure employee contribution. Employees lacking technical skills were often promoted to senior level roles without being able to do senior level work. Some staff level architects were often perceived as valuable for being loud and visible, but did not have the experience to contribute and often led meetings and projects astray. The lack of guidelines prevented management from monitoring this and correcting to keep projects meeting deadlines.

People DON'T come first
Dec 21, 2022 - Developer in San Francisco, CARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Work from home is the norm not the exception. Benefits are good but for how long...?
Cons
People come first is supposed to be one of the company values, that is a joke. Used to be a much better place to work but not anymore. Selfish managers that do not look after their team but just after their own. Lots of double talking and empty promises ("you're the best team, I'm impressed!" etc, etc) Managers with zero experience managing people or projects, because hiring/promoting inexperienced candidates is cheaper than hiring qualified candidates. With another round of layoffs being a very real possibility, is everyone for themselves, backstabbing and hiding information/knowledge that could benefit projects just to have control of the outcome and take credit. Back in November 2022 Affirm laid off some very talented people and eventually replaced them with internal inexperienced ones, the result has been very low morale and a mess of projects that go nowhere because everyone is trying to show how indispensable they are (job security) Looking for a position/work at Affirm? I would look elsewhere, unless Affirm is the only option and you need the money. It is a job, but you probably will not be happy in the dysfunctional mess Affirm is today. Sad because it used to be a good place to work.

A great place to work
May 16, 2023 - Senior Ssoftware Engineer in San Francisco, CARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Affirm has an engineering-first culture that is a great place to learn and grow
Cons
Working in a regulated industry constrains the way that you can innovate, so sometimes feature work can be seen as a chore

Started off great, Slow spiral in quality.
Feb 7, 2023 - Operations AssociateRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- Great Benefits - Help and active community - Frequent company events - Remote First - lots of opportunity for advancement and training
Cons
-Lack of transparency on policy changes. In the past year changes that heavily affected the team in terms of pay, holidays, OT, and PTO were announced almost day of with almost no warning. - Company has initiated the practice of screen recording with seemingly little to no testing. This has caused slow down on employees work stations that impact their handle times. - Management seems overworked and has little time to address employee concerns, or in some cases outright ignores concerns.
