    I worked at Amscan full-time

    Pros

Working with gift store owners and part shops was nice. Some good flexibility in schedule. Most of the people at home office were very nice and co-workers were nice. The Market shows could be fun.

    Cons

I was there when it was a tough industry at the time. Management kept raising the sales numbers and they were not always realistic. Pay was not always competitive. Kind of stressful at times.

    Pros

Overtime is cool, pay is also good, little gifts during holidays are coo, , friendly bosses that you can come to

    Cons

I'm a temp here and wish that I had seen them hiring from their own website instead of through a temp service

    Advice to Management

Maybe offer programs for those that don't speak English well?

    Pros

If your looking a place to get retire very soon and you are not willing to do more upgrade to your career this is the perfect place for you.

    Cons

bad health and dental plan, they are very cheap at all, they do not care about employee even they have plenty of things inside like gym, yoga and exercise plan which are kind of stupid, they prefer to invest a lot in an employee party instead of investing on their employee education, no room for advancement, better accommodations work conditions and the bunch of policy and bureaucracy they have what really makes is set the employee back instead of helping the company. The company seems to be handled by old school managers.

    Advice to Management

create a better working space with better accommodations and environment, invest in employee you will not regret and many stupid policy should be reviewed it really suck.

    I worked at Amscan full-time

    Pros

Excellent people. Family feel. Secure company. Gym and fitness classes at the Elmsford location. Nice clean facilities. 27" iMacs and Wacom tablets are standard issue for artists. Layout artists work breakdown, 45% in Adobe Illustrator, 20% in Photoshop, 20% in product lifecycle management software, file management, printing and mockup creation, and 15% in meetings. Desk or pod/cube areas are spacious, and many have huge windows with nice view of trees. Occasional free stuff from Party City like costumes and party goods. Some departments have amazing managers. Managers across departments are happy to answer questions. While there is a higher turn for entry level artists, Amscan likes to keep hard workers and will support leadership potential and innovation. This is not a company for slackers. Occasionally some departments let team members off early the day before holidays. There is a cafeteria at the Elmsford location. Halloween and holiday parties are great. Different social groups go out for happy hour from time to time. Discount at Party City. This is a great place for new designers to start. If the culture is a good fit, it can also be a place to stay and establish a long-term career.

    Cons

Lower opportunity for upward mobility. Non-manager salary range from 25th to 50th percentile for zipcode. Wide range of salary for same position/ responsibilities and experience level. Many departments have high pressure for fast turn of design deliverables. Complex systems for creating and tracking artwork deliverables through product lifecycle. First weeks present a big learning curve to understand and work within systems. Typical vacation of 2 weeks to start unless you are upper lever management, or exec level. Amscan almost never closes for snowfall.

    Advice to Management

Allow flex time in exchange for workers staying home for heavy snowfall days. Create more team-building fun events throughout the year.

I have been working at Amscan full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Most of the people are great to work with: funny, helpful, able to teach, and encouraging. You'll have plenty of hours and overtime, and the holidays are great. You have a lot of time and days off.

    Cons

Hot working environment all year and at times, it can be both stressful and very frustrating. You're responsible for fine tuning equipment in order for the machines to produce desired production amount and quality, however they don't always maintenance the machines, so when you arrive on your shift, either maintenance hasn't fixed it or the previous guy from a shift tried fixing it only making it worse.

    Advice to Management

Great company, but learn how to unite the three shifts instead of dividing them with competition. You are great with holidays and with encouraging support at times, but turn into the bad cop when production isn't made. Have you considered updated machines?
