Current Employee - New Business Account Manager in Chippenham, South West England, England (UK)

I have been working at Bechtle full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

As an account manager you are given total control of the accounts you look after. From the start to the very end everything is under your control and it is up to you to deliver the service customers require and build relationships to last for years to come.
New Business are a friendly, young team of people who are really ambitious and want to help create a good workplace for all in it. Bechtle looks to continue to grow and develop in this diverse and ever changing market by setting it's own goals and making it's own rules for success.

    Cons

This is not a con as such but advice to what people's expectations should be. Bechtle is not a place to work if you are looking for repititve work nor a place to sit back & relax. This job requires people who are determined and hungry to be the best at what they can be. This isn't for everyone but for those who are willing to put in the right effort the hardwork can really pay off.

I worked at Bechtle full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Big and ver interesting Customer base. Some really bright minds on most of the Teams. Bechtle Bonn is lined up pretty well in regards of customer needs and has departments for all hot IT Topics being Microsoft, Networking, DC, Virtualisation etc. .

    Cons

Currently collaboration between the different Teams has a lot of room for improvements. I feel the Management currently struggles to utilise the full potential of there teams. Most Managers look more on there Personal Achievement rather then doing what a Manager should do. Developing, Supporting, Coaching and Mentoring doesn't seem to be a number one priority.

    Advice to Management

Make Mentoring and Coaching a number one priority and fundamental Management Concept. Improve the collaboration between the different Teams to make use of the full Potential. Support High Potentials . I think that Bechtle Bonn could learn a lot from there HQ Neckarsulm!

I worked at Bechtle full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Modern building, pretty decent perks, lots of training. Do sometimes get a sense that you're trusted to get on with your work, and they give you time to grow into the role. Relaxed atmosphere for a sales office.

    Cons

Would complain about team management but it's the same in any sales office, you get the senior roles through either longevity or decent sales performance. They either don't manage at all, or micro (and time) manage.

The pay structure is far behind competitors, although they have addressed this it is still insufficient given the industry is experiencing somewhat of a boom. Plenty of companies offer 25k as a start with mobile/laptop/car.

Although in some aspects of the job being part of a large group is beneficial (especially when dealing with larger/international clients) it's proven to be a hindrance on more occasions. It's a dynamic industry with acquisitions/mergers happening on a weekly basis so there is a danger of being left behind. As a result new roles/progression is non-existent.

There is a distinct split in the company with the old guard having a detrimental affect on moral of younger/newer employees. They have somewhat of a monopoly on accounts/leads and it creates hard feelings among newer account managers who still have the hunger to hunt.

    Advice to Management

Fight for more freedom from HQ and get the older account managers more involved with the social events/ call outs.

    Pros

    Good people,

    Elastic time-schedule

    If selling - scalable :)

    Jokes inside the office

    No dress code

    No tense atmospher (maybe sometimes)

    No other words to use

    Now other ways to go.

    Cons

    The toilet stinks,

Men in the building behave like pigs, and defecate on the seat....uh disgusting. The pipes arent well fixed as well...

The project itself is underinvested, and I hope they get better :)

    Advice to Management

DOnt know what to say here, been there for a to short period of time, if it occurs, that they sell like a shitload of stuff the job might be fine, but the commission is 2 small i think.

    Pros

Up to date technology. Big investment in CRM systems etc. Great office.

    Cons

Management are have to control. Everything is controlled from HQ in Germany. UK MD is a Muppet on strings. Doesnt understand how to be a manager and look after staff.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your staff! Loads of account managers have left over the last year or so because the managers do not listen and have clear favorites in the office. Need to treat everybody the same!
Increase base pay! Huge profit targets and low base. Not exactly inspiring.

I have been working at Bechtle full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You can have coffee for free. Nice and quite office

    Cons

Everything is terrible. The company strangles the employees with stupid rules. The Managers are so bad, they benefit their friends or family but not the best employeesa. HR is totally a mess. Credit Dept is terrible to work to. Marketing people just do nothing. The salary is a joke. The people is focused on their own figures and not on the company results. They do not collaborate with each at all. Employees talk in riddles, they don't clearly speak about deals to prevent another employee to steal their own customer. If you want to read an old entry in the CRM you wont understand a word on purpose.

    Advice to Management

If you want to change your approach to your customers you need to change something. If you don't change things you will get the same results. Competitors are outside not inside the company.
