I worked at BioFire Diagnostics full-time for more than a year

    Pros

$5/ day food subsidy for overpriced bad quality food

    Cons

Lack of diversity, micro managing, permanently looking for errors and issues within your work area to call you out and enjoying it while doing so, hostile environment, promote you without matching your salary accordingly. Management act like they are something better than you,and they make sure you feel it. Day after day. They also feel superior in comparison to other departments thinking they are the smartest within...

I have been working at BioFire Diagnostics full-time

    Pros

Great PTO plan, great benefits, meal stipend...

    Cons

I am really upset with all parts of the HR department at this company, but most importantly how I've been treated as an employee here (although the onboarding process for when I was hired was pretty unorganized as well). I have asked different people from the HR department for some help on separate issues, and I have been ignored each time. I feel ignored and unimportant.

    Advice to Management

I advise you to actually help out your employees when they seek your guidance. Why would I want to stay with a company who makes me feel like my concerns don't matter? Good luck to future employees here. Hopefully, you won't have to talk to the HR department at this company.

I have been working at BioFire Diagnostics full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Benefits, pay, location, cafe, easy

    Cons

If you work in the pouch department, be prepared to work most of your life away with consistent mandatory 6 day work weeks. Unlike other departments, pouch is the only department that consistently requires their employees to give up weekends to make production. Management also holds the attitude “if you don’t like it, we’ll replace you.”

    Advice to Management

Stop making us work Saturday after Saturday after Saturday! We are EXHAUSTED. Stop growing the company if you don’t have the infrastructure to keep up with demand. Find other solutions rather than working your staff INTO THE GROUND.

I have been working at BioFire Diagnostics full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Amazing benefits - Somewhat competitive salary, since it's a large company - Management Tries hard to keep employees happy, as long as it's in their power/budget - Interesting work

    Cons

    - Organizations and management styles vary a lot from department to department - Because of large company bureaucracy, very slow promotion path for Entry level engineers, compared to other tech companies - No Work From home/Remote work whatsoever, needs to change to stay competitive - Cool projects that are new and cutting edge are often very scattered, disorganized, and stressful

    Advice to Management

Stay current with new tech/best practices, get competitive with recruiting silicon slopes' tech talent, get more visible. Reward people that are kicking butt and crack down on slackers.

I worked at BioFire Diagnostics full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great benefits, lunch stipend, every other Friday off, and rapidly growing company.

    Cons

Unless you are a female with a PHD, no need to apply. I've seen at least 6 men be terminated or forced to leave due to a very sexist Program Management leadership. The PM leadership is threatened by anyone with talent and the female to male ratio is a clear representation of sexual discrimination. Due to these issues, I can't recommend this company to anyone, regardless of the company benefits.

    Advice to Management

"Cut off one's nose to spite one's face," says it all in the case of BioFire. BFDx has let many great employees leave, forced many out, and even terminated multiple talented individuals to save 2 key people in the PM organization. I'm also amazed that upper level management and HR continue to mask the problem instead of fixing it.

    Pros

Good health benefits - coverage seems pretty good and premiums can be lowered with healthy lifestyle incentives. Out of pocket maximums seem pretty high though. ($5,000 / person or $10,000 for a couple!) Great 401k - as many other reviews have mentioned, they have one of the best retirement contribution plans in the SLC area. 9/8/80 schedule for many departments (every other Friday off) Social office environment...

    Cons

PTO includes sick time, so the 4 weeks PTO seems less generous than it initially sounds. If you get really sick and use up your PTO, you're screwed until it resets the next calendar year. Also you can't take a half day of PTO, but the PTO is metered out by hours, not days - meaning you don't actually get 20 days depending on how you use it (taking a 9 hour day off is different than an 8 hour Friday). You can end up...

    Advice to Management

    1) Consider offering work from home for employees that have demonstrated they can be trusted. If their work suffers, handle it as a management issue, but don't make it a blanket policy because one bad apple ruined the bunch. 2) Make IT a priority!! They support EVERYTHING the company does. A couple people are knowledge silos. This is not only dangerous to the company but also problematic for anyone trying to use those...
