      Great company with major flaws

      Pros

Really great benefits, lots of pride in the products made (for good reason), good pay, beautiful facilities, and I really enjoyed the onsite food stipend.

      Cons

BioMerieux bought BioFire, and as a result the culture and policies are increasingly corporate and less employee-forward. They forced manufacturing onto 12-hour shifts, and people are quitting and calling in and getting injured left and right from repetitive motion. The general consensus is that the creativity that brought BioFire such success is being quashed, and employees are not championed the way they once were. Their policies definitely made me feel like just a warm body. The HR department is negligent and absolutely terrible with their communication and follow-through.

      Great company, Difficult shift

      Pros

Great company culture with good benefits and overall concern for employees

      Cons

They moved to a 12 hour work shift, running 2 day shifts and 2 graveyard shifts splitting the week in half. It is really difficult to maintain morale under these conditions. And struggling to still consider the pros outweighing the cons.

      Terrible vibe

      Pros

5.00 lunch credit daily. Long weekend's, good benefits

      Cons

Ignorant people, it's like highschool with all of the gossip and clicks. If you're not friends with your lead kiss your bonus goodbye. They treat new people terrible I feel bad for them. Lack of training in some dept. 12 hour shift is way too long to be standing all day. No access to water until it's break. Leads are rude when you ask to use bathroom or get drink. Not a fun place to work. The people are so rude!!!

Not always super organized. They have been acquired by bioMerieux and there are lots of changes that don't seem to be great for business.

Great environment. Great people to work with. Great product that helps to increase overall health worldwide and save lives. Every other Friday off is awesome. Benefits are great.

      Cons

Communication and interaction from the top down could be better. Get upper management more face time with all levels of employees.

      Favoritism!!!

      Pros

The job is easy. The lunch is great, and they pay the first $5 everyday. The benefits are great. Great PTO. Every other Friday off.

      Cons

The leads have favorites. You will get the schedule you want if the lead and manager like you, otherwise you get stuck working a 7-5. You WILL get in trouble if things are not done their way, even if the outcome is the same result. It has to be exactly how the lead wants you to do things. Certain clerks will stand up and walk around, be gone from their area for up to 15 minutes every two hours and they won't get in trouble because the lead favorites them. So much drama, clerks will sit and gossip to their neighbor and not get into trouble because, favoritism.

      I Love Working Here

May 18, 2021 - Technical Writer in Salt Lake City, UT

      Pros

The detailed pros of being an employee of this company all stem from the attitude of those high up, which is then directed down. At least speaking from the department I work in, the employees are regarded as another category of customers. BioFire is always initiating intrinsic and extrinsic ways to say "thank you," and "you are appreciated." I've recently graduated with my MBA (the final semester being paid for by the company via tuition reimbursement), and I can honestly say that the elements of a good and strong modern organization has been evident in BioFire. As both an employer and a global organization, it is very impressive. Work can be demanding and often vigorous, but not too overbearing or difficult. I honestly feel that every minute of effort I put into my role is directly helping others in the world. It is a tremendous feeling. I also know the company is doing what it can to keep me and other employees satisfied and feeling appreciated, which is one of the best-proven methods of motivation. I have also seen the safety of employees being prioritized in a way I have not witnessed during previous employment. All comments and concerns are taken extremely seriously by management and HR. There is an atmosphere and culture of friendliness and ease, but with strict lines of professionalism that does not allow any inappropriate behavior to thrive. The company benefits are honestly unbelievable, including Maternity/Paternity Leave, PTO, Health Insurance, and discounts on company stock. I truly love working here and hope to stay with BioFire for a very long time.

      Cons

The company is growing at an extreme rate. The joke is that we are growing "vertically" instead of "diagonally." That being said, there will always be growing pains. There are a lot of people being hired at once, and I have noticed that management positions shift quite a bit, which can disrupt the stability and strength of smaller teams.
