    Pros

    Friendly, laid-back atmosphere. No micro-managing.

    Cons

Lack of communication from top regarding changes. Employees mostly left in the dark or have to do work at least twice due to lack of interdepartmental communication at the top.

I worked at CARQUEST full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Had 24 years with company until the recession hit and the Upper Mgmt made STUPID decisions. When people are not buying NEW cars but instead taking their cars to local repair places they decide to dissolve the entire sales force across the US that literally was the bread & butter of their earnings. Stores carry numerous staff salaries, benefits, enormous overhead. A territory sales manager is ONE Salary/Benefits that generated hundreds of thousands in sales per year and multiply that by 40-70 accounts - showed how much money was made by ONE PERSON-but they dissolved the entire outside sales force that supplied all the repair shops with parts. I had hoped to retire from this job that I took and merged from other companies that they had overtaken (smart move)

    Cons

Upper Management should have read the Wall Street Journal, Kiplingers Report or even the daily paper as ALL the FACTS were there as how people got through the recession and were getting back on their feet; but instead they were SO overpaid in the Executive world - they LOST touch with all reality of John Q. Public and their DEMISE came within 5 years of their worst decision of the business - they are NO LONGER in existence in the US....

    Advice to Management

Listen to people who have worked for you for 10 plus years; continue to hold meetings and bring in your top performers and get feedback. You LOST all touch with reality - and anyone reading ANY paper could READ how people were getting through the recession and rebuilding after such a devastation. Instead you made the WORST decision ever; should have closed stores instead of cutting off the outside sales force which was the MEAT on the dinner table! Now - CARQUEST is Advanced Auto Parts unless you go to Canada....or get an old box at Auto Zone. TOO many inflated salaries at the top and very low pay raises to the rest of the worker bees....

I worked at CARQUEST full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people that had a passion for doing what they did. Unfortunately they were often not treated very well. Very sad.

    Cons

Upper management (ownership) was ruthless in their treatment of those great people. They had no regard for loyalty or a desire to create a safe working environment for their people. Cheap was the chant coming from corporate.

    Advice to Management

Company was sold to Advance which I have heard isn't much getter.
