I have been working at Capitol Autism Services part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I super appreciate many aspects of this job. It is expanding my experience and my career growth in ways that I will need in my future considering I wish to continue in this field. It's a highly rewarding job to be able to help families and their kiddos, and to also feel their gratefulness from your services. If you're scheduled to work at the clinic, you'll run into some other amazing RBTs who are just as passionate,...

    Cons

Aside from the rare and considerate behavior consultants, there are actually some catty and moody ones. I would have to say in my experience with this company, there are more rude and impatient behavior consultants than there are supportive ones. I don't seem to understand how this is even tolerable. I've had some coworkers even warn me or speak poorly of specific behavior consultants based on their demeanor, and most...

    Advice to Management

My advice to this company is to please ensure great leadership amongst their higher ups/supervisors. It’s a poor flaw in expecting top notch services out of your RBTs when higher positioned supervisors demonstrate low quality support and training. Secondly, I would encourage the company to immediately adjust the Standby Policy in which RBTs remain ready for a potential subbing case. Personally, even 2 or 3 hours to...

I worked at Capitol Autism Services part-time

    Pros

Some BCBA's are great, and the training prepares you to take the RBT exam.

    Cons

This job is the most stressful, terrifying, and overwhelming position I've ever had. The company will throw you into any open case regardless of intensity as soon as you're out of training and refuse to let you take on a lighter caseload. The training is textbook, but the job is real life. The training will not prepare you in any way for the job, except to prepare you to take the RBT exam. Additionally, the company spouts...

I have been working at Capitol Autism Services full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The opportunity to work to improve the lives of children living with autism spectrum disorder is very rewarding

    Cons

This company lack institutional communication and mistreats their employees particularly at the lower levels. Employees schedules and regions are completely ignored and if one choses to state that they will not work in region they have not agreed to they are met by an aggressive and punitive HR department. Lesson plans for students are poorly written and rarely updated. On substitute cases (of which one can expect to...

    Advice to Management

Provide more support to BTs/RBTs. Insure that all lesson plans are thorough and comprehensible. Train the office staff not to call BT's during cases or schedule them for cases outside of their availability.

    Pros

Really great co workers and leads. Training help prepares you a little for the job. The students are awesome to work with. Great hours.

    Cons

Pay is very low for how much work you have to do. Turn over rate pretty high.

    Pros

    Rewarding and stimulating productivity

    Cons

    Poor leadership from supervisors

    Advice to Management

No company is ever perfect, but my biggest disappointment with this company is running into supervisors who make this field a lot more work than my own clients do. As someone who takes pride in the ability to motivate children to learn, I would expect the same kind of passionate and encouraging environment from my team, especially from my higher authoritative figures who I must ALWAYS follow, report to, and trust in....

I have been working at Capitol Autism Services full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I love this company so much. I have worked here for about 3 years and came from another company, so I have prior experience to compare to. The culture is so amazing and supportive. The directors are present and available when you need them. They provide great in-office training. Consultants and BCBAs have manageable caseloads, so they can provide effective treatment and support of RBTs. Pay is pretty good compared to...

    Cons

It would be great if the in-office training could extend into the field, so that continuation of training does not fall on the shoulders of consultants and BCBAs. We need more schedulers. The company is getting too big to have one main scheduler. Lastly, this is an industry-wide issue, but the staff:client ratio is always off (i.e. too many clients, not enough RBTs). I understand wanting to serve as many kids as possible,...

    Advice to Management

Hold off on taking on assessments for a while... focus on hiring more RBTs and maintaining good staff.

I have been working at Capitol Autism Services part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Plenty of hour available as they have way too many clients and not enough RBTs.

    Cons

RBTs are treated like they’re “a dime a dozen”. Training is all in the office and no practical training is provided. There is no company culture outside of the office because you never actually meet anyone who isn’t directly on your team. Supervision is minimal and not very supportive, but that could just be my experience. Other teams may have vastly different experiences, but you’d never know.

    Advice to Management

Practical, real life training. Add paid social or training events to create a better, more supported culture for RBTs.

I have been working at Capitol Autism Services full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great opportunity if you are in college or a recent college graduate because of a flexible schedule. A lot of clients (opportunities to sub- if the office actually schedules you) Schedule you in areas that you are interested in (say no when they offer you a location that you are not interested in) Staff in-field is AMAZING and provide a lot of insight and clarity when teaching you how to run lessons and collect data....

    Cons

The office 100% - scheduling is awful in terms of texting you every day. I have received countless passive aggressive text messages from the front office. Telling me to work because another tutored cancelled and they want me ASAP within 30 minutes... when they have access to my schedule and know that either I am with a client or that I will work until night that day. Another note, I was scheduled as a full-time employee...

I have been working at Capitol Autism Services part-time

    Pros

I have been with CAS for almost 10 months and really love this company! I have worked for other autism providers in the area but I like how big and organized they are. This is a larger company compared to some others so they have more clients. I started out with 14 hours a week and have built it up to almost 20+. The training process is pretty intense but I felt totally prepared by the time I started my cases....
