I worked at Chef Geoff full-time

    Pros

No micro-managing from leader, the brother of the owner is a genuine person and works hard for Geoff, secret shopper rewards were generous, some managers are great leaders, most people are nice and try hard to pull their own weight.

    Cons

All Geoff cares about is his public image what you see online is not what you will get in person. He is money hungry at the detriment to his restaurant's quality. Golf less, Work more, Geoff...and maybe say thank you once in awhile or lend a helping hand in the restaurants.

Tries hard but always have financial restraints holding them back from doing what is really needed in a variety of areas from facility maintenance to employee compensation and benefits.

Always short staffed because of the above. Money is not competitive.

    Advice to Management

Geoff needs to find his passion again.

I worked at Chef Geoff full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Consistent expectations and high standards but also a willingness to listen to employees and make changes. Always trying to improve. Gives second and sometimes third chances for employees who make mistakes.

    Cons

Pay could be better. Uniforms aren't flattering for servers. Benefits for all could be more but this is a small company so it's understandable.

    Advice to Management

Some don't deserve a third chance.

    Pros

These are successful restaurants with enough volume to make the work engaging. Food quality is good enough to not be embarrassing and menus change often enough to reflect current trends. Total hours for management are reasonable, however scheduling is erratic and involves doubles, back to backs and 12-plus hour shifts.

    Cons

Compensation and benefits are just average. While there is a comprehensive training program on the books, at least in my experience it was not followed. There is a culture of distrust in this company: there are cameras everywhere, including in the management offices and in other places where cameras used for security only would not be necessary. I found this offensive. If upper management wants to know what is going on, why don't they come and look and work with you? There is little room here for creativity or initiative. Staffing levels for hourlies are way too low,; server sections too large; and you are constantly fighting fires.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the cameras, except as needed for security. Trust your managers, and the better ones might stay. Staff your restaurants adequately.

I worked at Chef Geoff full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great team that loves to promote from within. Multiple current managers started as hourly employees. Each restaurant has a good family vibe. A lot of employees work at multiple locations, which allows for a good overall team.

    Cons

There is a lot of transferring of employees and managers, sometimes with little to no notice. There is a lot of "secrecy" in employee status. Manager can be very hostile towards employees. Hiring process leaves much to be desired.

    Advice to Management

I think that the JSS and manager/staff evals would be taken more seriously as far as advancement goes.

I worked at Chef Geoff as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Individual groups are competent in spite of management

    Cons

Management completely out of touch with other areas and labor relations

    Advice to Management

The divide between the management and tipped staff is gigantic, and most of the staff are virtual independant contractors having the onus of providing too much on their own to make money for the business. A complete re-evaluation of your labor relations is vastly overdue.
