Pros
- Great and beloved product - High caliber team - Well designed & well located office
Cons
- Upper management silently assents to CEO - Public humiliation by CEO is accepted as a norm - High turnover of employees - Long hours + staying online even whilst on holiday are expected - Low pay relative to market - Any attempt to voice concern is brushed aside - Micromanagement is norm, zero trust in employee capacity
Advice to Management
- CEO: Run product, turn over management to someone with higher EQ - Management / Board: Allowing CEO untethered control will be the downfall of CM, rein it in

Pros
Everyone at CM is super smart and loves the product. It’s still a start up culture and it feels that way. Everyone can have a say, management will listen, though big decisions get made at a higher level.
Cons
The company should spend some time realigning everyone on the mission and refreshing the positive culture.

Doesn't RecommendNegative OutlookDisapproves of CEOI worked at Citymapper full-time for more than 3 years
Pros
- Competitive Wages - Fully stocked fridge+free dinners if staying late - Market equivalent equity options - Working on a widely used product
Cons
- Constantly changing priorities with no idea how to build a business - Leadership team more obsessed with getting press than actually building a business - Poor use of data to make decisions. Far more comes from 'gut feel' of senior management...funny how an 8 year old business with 50 million in funding still doesn't have a scalable revenue generating model - Late hours and weekend work expected. - 'On call'... engineers expected to monitor activity outside of business hours - There is no culture of collaboration. A few people go into a room and make decisions. Yet people with PhD's sit outside and don't even get to give an opinion. Would never recommend anyone to join this company.

Rethink the way the organization is run. Focus on the right stuff and try to retain your best staff. Older does not mean better and smarter. Stop the ageism. Stop playing favorites with mid level staff.

Pros
Salary is market rate, and free dinners are nice. Most non-seniors here are smart, very well educated and good professsionals who are polite and easy to get along with. The management team makes this place intolerable, however.
Cons
Read the negative reviews, they're true for the most part. The positive ones seem very far fetched, and funnily most of them are in the same month; probably a concerted effort by management to make the company seem appealing. Fact is, this is ruthless, corporate like environment where a few people make all the decisions, and where no trust is shown in employees. Its why over 25 people left the company in the 18... months I was here. There are people who have left in a week, others within 3 months. Why would multiple credible, smart professionals do that? Because they can't tolerate what is a terrible culture where management play favorites with certain people, and show almost no trust in most employees. This place operates like its the CIA.

Why hire people when you'll never show any faith in them, and not care about their professional development in any way?

No trust shown in employees Ageism, only 40 year olds are allowed to make any decisions People working on the business aren't allowed to see metrics of the business... Shocking levels of arrogance amongst senior management
Advice to Management
Stop acting like arrogant children

Doesn't RecommendNegative OutlookDisapproves of CEOI worked at Citymapper full-time for less than a year
Pros
Decent pay and equity options Not overly strict about hours or dress code which is positive They do not discriminate; gender or orientation or race which is a big positive
Cons
When you are hired you're promised a lot, but really they only trust people with over 10 years of experience. 0 entrepreneurialism, and 0 trust shown in employees. Only the so called 'senior team' can do anything. Some of the management act like they've built the next uber, while the reality is the business is not really doing amazing. They are under pressure and take it out on junior people. Some of the... management are so arrogant they completely fail to see what is going on under their own noses. Most hilarious part is their sheer general arrogance will mean they will disregard this review. Its also very concerning that they think its okay to interview many people to give their mid level employees 'interview experience'. How is this morally okay? I felt very uncomfortable that they did this and think its morally wrong. You are asking other people to take out many hours of their lives, prepare and come in for roles you are not actually for? Every time they did this I felt so bad for the people waiting to be interviewed. But then, can't expect much from people with ego's bigger than the sun itself. Worst career decision I could have ever made. No point in working there. Go to a startup that's actually growing. Not a 'startup' that's been around for 8 years and still doesn't know how to make money, while the senior team acts like they've cashed out billions in equity and cured cancer.

Value people. Treat them like humans. Be a little more humble, and just because you have had a good career, does not give you the right to treat other people poorly. Companies with cultures like this don't end up succeeding.

Pros
Citymapper is a well loved, globally known brand with a best in class. Coming to work everyday is exciting, the team is small enough to know everyone, and big enough to make magic happen. When I joined Citymapper I was surprised by how engaged, motivated, bright and wonderful everyone is. Everyone is truly passionate about what they do, and how they do it, working constantly to make things better all the time.... Management is approachable, and and it feels like they are genuinely concerned with the well being of employees, doing frequent 1-on-1 meetings to see that you're doing well and growing in your position. The company holds quarterly company-wide meeting where plans for the future are presented and employees are encouraged to give their feedback, something I've rarely seen in other companies. I was a bit concerned when I read other reviews here, when I was interviewing, but I've found that Citymapper is nothing like that. This is a very fast paced startup with a strong team that delivers! if you're the type of person that's into that you'll have a great time!
Show MoreCons
Citymapper moves quickly, so work-life balance might suffer from time to time. Team is small so sometimes you don't have enough people to push new projects.

RecommendsPositive OutlookApproves of CEOI have been working at Citymapper full-time for less than a year
Pros
It's an opportunity to witness that how such a small team is able to deliver that much. Every single person is energetic, enthusiastic and passionate about what they do. Each believes in taking ownership, execute and deliver without supervision. In addition to that, IMO The best thing is the transparency across the company. Everyone is aware of what company is doing, where it's going and what's the aim for every... individual to achieve as a whole. If you value learning then this is the place. With such good and experienced people around you, every moment you are learning something. Whats adds as a cherry on top is the approachability. Asking questions is promoted and people are happy to answer your queries. lastly comes the love for the Brand. Try telling someone that you work for Citymapper and the other persons expression is just enough to make your day. On the other side, it's a very fast paced environment. Decisions are very quick which is pretty much the reason how they did so much with hand-full of people. All in all, If you dream of working in a startup operating at scale with a brand name, This is the place for you.
Show MoreCons
As I said, it's a faced paced environment, you have to be very agile in order to keep up. If you are one of those who doesn't care about the product, just need a 10-7 job then this is not for you.

"Smart people and ambitious product, in a sunrise industry with plenty of challenges and opportunities"

RecommendsPositive OutlookNo opinion of CEOI have been working at Citymapper full-time
Pros
- A talented team, lots of smart people with full of energies from all over the world - A great product with lots of potentials. - An ambitious goal, doing something very hard but does actually help people and make the world a better place. - Personally, I believe in the potential of the whole industry, will become very different in the next 20 years
Cons
- The senior leads are positive and supportive for anyone who wants to bring their carrier to a higher level, but the path is unclear here. This place is definitely not perfect, but if you are ambitious and tired of daily repeating boring work, want to look for some more "scrappy and uncertainties" like me, then this might be your place.
Advice to Management
- CEO is definitely smart and has a great product sense, but sometimes I think he needs to trust more his team to make decisions. And he has to do it at some point as the company grow. (so as the senior leads) - There are some on here about the CEO's poor human communication skills. Honestly, I think he does an ok job on it. And more for me is that CEO's job is leading the company to win instead of just be nice.
