I worked at Clarks part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The stores a nice and usually clean. Management is good depending on your store.

    Cons

No room for growth. Working on Thanksgiving until 2AM and then Black Friday at 5AM isn't cool. Especially when the higher-ups are at home with their families.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing...don't forget what it's like to be in the store on the sales floor.

I have been working at Clarks (Less than a year)

    Pros

    50% discount
1 free pair of shoes a year

    Cons

They cut every manager and assistant managers pay across the entire US.
Making unrealistic and unreachable goals to make excuses to shut down many stores within the next couple of years
Expect too much of management with little staff or hours to give to them
Always want more- at Clarks you're never doing good enough.
Once a great company to work for but now has started to not care about their employees only want to save and make money

    Advice to Management

Stop making so many changes. You're micromanaging all of the stores when you don't even know how to run them. You overload your stores but still expect us to be able to do it all. Bring back the pay scale, you're going to lose all of your good employee who will just leave to competitor companies and drive business away from you, because with the new pay you won't be able to afford top quality staff anymore. Care about your employees!!!

I have been working at Clarks part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

the discount is great! it's 50% off on top of whatever promo is taking place. They are also super flexible with days you can't work, and no penalties if you can't work last minute.

    Cons

there are very few hours available for part time employees, even though there are only 9 people on the entire team and we are the best selling store in the region. some of the people I work with are also very awkward and uncomfortable to interact with.

I have been working at Clarks full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

In a challenging retail environment, Clarks has managed to stay relevant by treating their employees right. They've always been transparent, and go to great lengths to communicate with their employees. You may not always love the news, but they will always be fair and honest with their team. The company has been around for almost 200 years, and is rooted in solid principles.

    Cons

Recently, there has been a great deal of change. However, I choose to look at this change not as a negative, but as an opportunity for my team to evolve and grow.

    Advice to Management

I encourage leadership to continue focusing on the people. We are at the foundation of the business. We are the ones interacting with consumers. We are advocates for your brand. Please continue to be fair and honest with all levels of the organization.

I worked at Clarks full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Worked with some great people and gained great experience of how to deal with people. Discounted shoes were great too

    Cons

New upper management have no clue about this company's heritage or how to treat their employees. Cutting people's pay and always expecting more and more don't go well together.
There has been a large exodus of good people recently at store level leaving stores stretched
There are many store closures planned for 2017/18 and the Americas business is not sound
No progression will happen here unless you're part of the "clique" that has grown recently
Training is nonexistent and the entire training team were just laid off
Expect to be thrown in the deep end and sink or swim

    Advice to Management

Clear out upper level management and start again. Demonstrating shoes at the front door is nothing short of idiotic and while it may work for other companies with drones or massaging chairs, it doesn't work for shoe stores. A drop of 15% in sales since this was introduced proves that!!
If Clarks in the U.K. knew half of what is going on, heads would roll
Be prepared for more forced lay offs in the coming months and then try and do the work that you ask yourselves. Wouldn't last 5 minutes
Cut backs and operating costs cut but It's ok for pivotal people to commute to Boston from Texas and stay in hotels for weeks at a time??
    Get it together!!
