Toxic Culture- Avoid!!!

Pros

Great Product. High product reliability.

Cons

This is just a very bad company to work for. Company culture is toxic! There is no teamwork. The environment is one that everyone is walking on eggshells. Upper level management manages by fear. Middle level management just follows exactly what the upper level managers dictate. Managers do not think for themselves or have any input. HR is one of the main problems. They are not trusted by the employees with good reason. I have been to HR (in confidence) on numerous occasions with issues only to have them go straight to my director and report to them my concerns (using my name). Extremely unprofessional!! This is the primary reason there is such an extremely high turnover rate!

Pros

Great product that changes people's lives

Cons

I have been working at Cochlear for 5 years & we had 3 VPs of marketing over the last 5 years. The marketing department is a total mess. Meetings are full of tension, sarcasm and there's no focus and absolutely no work-life balance. The department's goal is to grow, grow and grow the share and the market and who cares how employees feel. I have been there for 5 years because it's hard to find a job elsewhere. Today, we kicked off our ASM (Annual Sales Meeting) in Texas & it's sad to see all the hypocritical executive intros talking about our sales playbooks that the field team doesn't believe in & never uses. It's just a waste of our time. It's a company with no focus & no respect for employees.Show Less

Pros

There is available parking. Coffee machine.

Cons

1.) Management is 2 faced. 2.)Just because you have a degree, does not mean you know what your doing. 3.)There is no 3 year or 5 year plan for the company. The plan changes every year and employees always find out late. 4.)Employee reviews are tied directly to raises. You could be doing 200% at your job, but reviews are done on supposed "goals" which are not even part of the job or your job performance, and depends if your management team likes you. Was once told that that I did excellent job, but rating was low because that is how the president of the company wanted it (no one should get a perfect score). 5.)Marketing dept does not know what they are doing, again no long term plan. 6.) Field staff ripping company off and no one in management cares. 6.)IT in the company is so backward (need to bring the company infrastructure into the 21st Century) 7.)People promotoed to positions of management just because they "know" or "married" certain employees. And don't let the understanding that the company is under the FDA rules, of course they are but.....they try to hide things from the FDA. When there seems to be an inspection from the FDA, management goes into a tizzy.. they have meetings warning employees not to talk to FDA auditors and to only direct them to only to 1 person, so no one lets that cat out of bag.
