I have been working at Commerce Bank full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They are really excited about their team and put the employees first. They like to hire from within and are always promoting events and conferences to help their employee become more prepared and ready for anything. Higher-Up employees are very helpful and interact with everyone on the team.

    Cons

If you work at a branch, you will have to be ready to possibly working on saturdays, but only for a few hours in the morning.

    Advice to Management

    None.

I have been working at Commerce Bank full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people. Good benefits including generous vacation, insurance and 401(k) match. Very stable. Long employee tenure indicative of satisfied employees.

    Cons

Can be caught in the old way of doing things and slightly resistant to change. Behind the curve on technology.

    Advice to Management

Need to improve new employee onboarding with more robust training

I have been working at Commerce Bank full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Senior management is extremely uplifting and strives to actually promote from within and build their people up to their highest potential. Commerce cares about their employees just as much as their customers. I've never felt so useful and wanted in a position as I do here.

    Cons

Having enough time to get work done. Supervisors often tend to believe their work is more important, thus needing more time, but then the lower totem pole employees feel rushed and can't help their customers in a timely manner. It can be frustrating.

    Advice to Management

When you commit to being a mentor, actually take the time to spend with your mentee so they don't feel like a deer in headlights later on. Too often am I asked why I don't know something, and it's because there wasn't enough time taken to work on what's important.

I worked at Commerce Bank full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Brand recognition in MO & KS

    No micro management

    Somewhat autonomous working conditions

150 years in business means stability

    Cons

Pay structure is lower than most banks

Banks are like casinos don't get involved with them unless you are an owner because the odds are always in their favor.

    High turnover

Forwarding emails is not teaching, coaching, or leadership

No strategy or focus for any retail department

No tools to help you gain business

Greedy Big Bank mentality: It has to be a sure thing / make us lots of money and no risk.
We will waste time and money on getting legal department approval and waste more time and money on a D-level marketing department back to legal. Whoops we are out of money for the initiative. P.S. No one is reading your 10,000 word Advertisements/Brochures/Flyers. They are supposed to get people curious about a product or service; not be like an afternoon at the library.

80's and 90's technology with lots of band aid fixes

No advice or coaching ever because management has no idea how to be successful doing the job

    Advice to Management

Keep making multi Billions and cut any middle management jobs so there is nothing left but entry level and VP/Presidents or Department heads to be more efficient . The stock price soars and shareholders will cheer, then you can sell your stock and retire before everything crumbles. And blame millennials.

    Does anyone have a strategy?

You may need some new blood/enthusiasm to spark change.
People who have been doing things the same old way for 15, 20, 25, 30, 40 years are not going to lead change or be innovators.

Legal, Operations, Compliance are in complete control of everything. Why should they be making/changing strategy decisions. They use fear of risk to control every leader.

You sat on old tech for years making money while it got harder and harder for employees to do their jobs. Tech upgrades aren't optional expenditures

I have been working at Commerce Bank full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, nice vacation package. Some areas are run great while others leave you wondering how they continue to function. The good news is, there is often opportunity to move around if you find yourself in one of those questionable areas.

    Cons

Too many areas work on a 'bonus' system. It appears the company can't make more money, so non-management areas are understaffed in order for managers to continue to earn their bonus. It's a shame; there are good people who work here and we're running them off because of low pay and terrible staffing conditions.

    Advice to Management

    Get honest.
