I have been working at Commerce Bank full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Upward mobility ! There are people who get hired and within 3 months are promoted to management . This is great because most people think that you can’t move in banking, well commerce changed that . I love that you can really develop your career here with a great team to support you

    Cons

No cons we have recently changed the way we do banking making everyone universal so just because someone is a manager, it doesn’t mean they won’t be on the teller line or opening accounts . Everyone shares the same responsibilities no matter what level they are in the organization.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work

I have been working at Commerce Bank full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I started with Commerce on a temporary employment contract. I have found that there are ample opportunities to grow your career at Commerce Bank. It seems as if management is eager to promote from within, which helps expand career growth avenues.

    Cons

There is not a particular "con" that comes to my mind. Overall, the company has treated me very well. No job is perfect, but I feel valued and encouraged by my team.

I worked at Commerce Bank part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great opportunities for advancement in the company

    Cons

The branch I was at was severely understaffed and provided very little training

    Advice to Management

Provide tellers with more background and information on the products and services they're asked to sell, train tellers in sales techniques

I have been working at Commerce Bank full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I have worked for Commerce Trust Company a bit over two years. I appreciate the client-focused culture and work-life balance. The company does a lot to support the local community.

    Cons

As you would expect in the industry, lots of bureaucracy and regulations. Technology is way behind. Tuition reimbursement is not competitive

    Advice to Management

More social events for millennials. More work from home opportunities

I worked at Commerce Bank full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The only pro here is the nice stand up desk the provide for developers.

    Cons

Lack of talent and resources. Be prepared to be overworked and then talked about negatively in stand-up’s when you don’t overwork yourself. Be prepared to be pulled in multiple ways and do triple the work for the same pay. No motivation to work with newer technologies and implement new ideas. Most of the IT people who work here are older and all they know is Commerce. Also expect to work three times as hard to prove yourself if you’re not as “regular” as everyone else around you on the floor.

Oh — and they also don’t pay out your money they’re supposed to if you ever decide to resign.

    Advice to Management

Stop being afraid to transition into using newer technologies. Stop the red tape and all the playing favorites on each team. Honestly, the company just needs a whole new approach to the way they do things in general.

I have been working at Commerce Bank full-time

    Pros

You will hopefully make some great friendships.

    Cons

Blatant favoritism. Still the good ole boys network. Job description is much different than the actual job. There are quotas and scripts, if they try to act like that's not the case in the interview, don't believe them. I don't think the higher ups have a clue what it is like to be at the retail level of banking. Departments don't communicate well with each other and the technology and systems they want you to use to get your work done are archaic at best. Insurance is not great and little work/life balance.

    Advice to Management

Don't pick and choose who you will coach and develop. Treat everyone with the same amount of respect and dignity. Also maybe don't talk about employees to other employees.

    Pros

The culture being a part of performance review process. That it's not just numbers but attitude and incorporating the company values in your actions also matters to the organization.

    Cons

Upper management played favorites and were not all professional, abused their position.

    Advice to Management

Take all complaints more seriously especially when it's become a pattern for that manager. Do not always take the manager's side of story in a situation more people need to be asked what they have experienced without being retaliated against by that manager and HR needs to be more supportive.

    Cons

Stuck in 1960s technology. Zero dollars invested in systems from this century. From an IT perspective, this will be the most frustrating job you'll ever have.
Jump your career ahead and look elsewhere.
