I worked at CommonBond Communities part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Commonbond is a company with great vision and truly cares for it's residents and believes in a "community" atmosphere for them to live and thrive. Employees are given a lot of training and Corporate Management (not on site) is easily accessible and friendly.

    Cons

On site is a VERY DIFFERENT thing, direct management was hostile to the residents and too much drama/stress was caused. Work was put directly on the Assistant, that was the Managers responsibility (who took direct credit for it). There was no encouragement but much criticism and the pay was low compared to the amount of work.

    Advice to Management

Give residents anonymous questionnaires on the performance of the Management, Assistant and Maintenance asking specific questions regarding their "feelings" toward them and how comfortable they feel when they need something. It will give Corporate better insight as to what is going on.

    Pros

    Flexible schedule
    Great Mission
Good Advantage Services staff and mission
IT and lower level maintenance staff

    Cons

    Business out-weighs the mission
    Unqualified middle management

    Report Heavy
    Pay not equal to workload
"Performance based raise" will be interchangeable with "Industry Average" yet falls below

Turnover - not just any, the good/smart people leave

    Advice to Management

Get it together. Stop spreading everything so thin. Demote or fire a few rungs of the Corporate ladder.

I have been working at CommonBond Communities full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, work life balance, rewarding and challenging work, diverse group of employees

    Cons

    1. Extremely top heavy corp offices/PM dept with minimal advancement opportunities. Claim they want to hear from the staff with annual scripted visits in the field about what works and what needs improvement. But, dismissive attitude shows this should only be discussed on scripted visits.

    2. Annual 1-3% pay increase claimed to be based on performance all the while using subjective measures that vary between supervisors.

    Advice to Management

    1. Invest in staff and train them across departments to retain good employees while keeping them challenged and stimulated. Send out surveys as to which departments other staff would like to work in and be trained in and give staff the opportunities to grow into new positions.

    2. Slash some of that top heavy management.

I have been working at CommonBond Communities (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Management believes in a caring and friendly approach to staff and is truly committed to the mall Deion of the organization. Some of the best affordable properties in the industry.

    Cons

Top down and top heavy structure can make it hard to be heard and difficult to get things done.

    Advice to Management

Respect the people you hire by giving them a voice in the organization. There are too many people in too many offices in the Senior and Executive management who are not hearing much but the sounds of themselves talking. There are so very many Executives and Directors with new ones being created daily. Spend those donations, government dollars and resident cash on help for ground level staff to make the mistake scion happen from the ground up.

I have been working at CommonBond Communities (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great Mission, great place to work, great co-workers. Supportive staff that care about the residents and each other. The resident experience is the number one focus. CommonBond values staff and is flexible with schedules, work-life balance, and educational opportunities.

    Cons

Larger company so may not know all staff. Can be isolated working at small site with not a lot of other staff.
