I worked at CompWest Insurance full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The first few years at CW were golden. It was very different than traditional insurance companies. It was dynamic company, forward thinking and full of bright people. There are still a few great people left.

    Cons

Once the parent company (an old school state fund) took over, the old values that made CW so great, pretty much went away.

    Advice to Management

    Good luck...you need it.

    Pros

Coworkers are very knowledgeable and overall a nice group of people to work with. The Company has good benefits and perks such as monthly lunches. The pay was fair for the industry.

    Cons

Some upper level Managers do not seem to have their employees best interests in mind when they make decisions. On many occasions decisions are made without consulting the people who actually do the work. Computer systems needs upgrading.

    Advice to Management

Please consult your employees before making changes that will effect their work.

I worked at CompWest Insurance full-time

    Pros

Regular Monday thru Friday schedule, some really nice co-workers.

    Cons

The Manger was not open to new ideas or feed-back, gave negative feed-back much more than positive encouragement, glorified herself rather than her team, several nurses left the company solely because of her, two did not even make it past the initial orientation period. She displayed favoritism. She created a very stressful working environment.

    Advice to Management

Listen more to the employees actually doing the work. Giving positive feedback creates better employees and better results for the company.

    Pros

Great People, excellent programs with the potential to be bigger and better than they are now. Department Heads are some of the brightest in the business.

    Cons

Upper Management's dependence on technology which handcuffs Underwriting and Marketing.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the front line personnel

I worked at CompWest Insurance full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible work schedule, reasonable hours, friendly colleagues. The environment is pleasant and the office locations are convenient.

    Cons

Upper management (pawns of the parent company) is smooth talking but clueless - truly empty suits. Bureaucracy is crazy. Decisions take forever to be made. Company hasn't turned an underwriting profit in 5+ years.

    Advice to Management

Results are terrible and have been for at least 3 years. Maybe we should learn from other companies in the same industry that have been successful?
