I have been working at Con Edison full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    - Total benefits package is very good
    - Highly stable against layoffs
    -

    Cons

    - Because of total benefits package and the company's risk averse nature, salaries are subpar
    - Even with over a decade of experience, vacation is severly limited

    Advice to Management

A big disconnect between the Company's messaging and what middle management is doing is hurting everybody.

I have been working at Con Edison full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Con Edison is a great place to work for those with or without higher education. There are very few places that pay as much as Con Edison does for those without a college degree. Not only are you compensated well, you learn a trade that you can take with you anywhere. Plus, if you don't have a college degree but would like to get one, Con Edison can pay for your education through tuition reimbursement. If you already have a college degree, there are plenty of opportunities to move up and around. It's also a very female friendly company. I had a baby recently and my boss and coworkers were very supportive throughout my pregnancy and during my transition back from maternity leave. I was able to take 5 months off after the birth of my child. 10 weeks paid for a vaginal birth and the rest was unpaid leave. (12 weeks if it's a C-section.) Con Edison has lactation rooms stocked with pumping and nursing amenities. It's a really great place for working mothers.

    Cons

The biggest con is that there can sometimes be an 'us' versus 'them' mentality between union and management depending on where you work in Con Edison.

    Pros

You will get a lot of work experience. You will constantly be in challenges and you always have to prove that you're capable.

    Cons

Don't get discouraged my intra-corporate politics.

I have been working at Con Edison full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

If you do your job, you are rewarded.

    Cons

People are way too sensitive to ODI issues and will use that as an excuse to get you fired. The definition is way too broad.

    Advice to Management

Keeping folks safe is your highest priority, then everything else.

I have been working at Con Edison full-time

    Pros

Benefits and flexibility, ability to move within company. Great stepping stone for careers in engineering, construction and utility space.

    Cons

Politics. Complacency of individuals may disappoint newcomers in industry. Emergency response requires work/life balance to be measured.

    Advice to Management

Create networks in other organizations to move up in career. Maximize salary ranges prior to applying for promotion.

    Cons

Honestly, no cons about it. Good all-round.
