I worked at Conemaugh Health System full-time

    Pros

There was rarely a shortage of nurses.

    Cons

Some people who have been there for a long time and have management positions have terrible attitudes. They made it very unpleasant to work with them.

    Advice to Management

To be more aware of you employees who have a negative attitude and don't foster it.

I have been working at Conemaugh Health System full-time

    Pros

good pay for the area, lots of patient contact, flexible hours. Work as clinical coordinator and bedside nurse.

    Cons

Staffing, staffing, and staffing. Continually cutting back. Lose a lot of hours dependent on census. Always work at least 2 staff members short per shift. Expect excellent HCAHPPS without the staff to make it happen.

    Advice to Management

Nurse aide salaries are cheaper than losing 500,000 for low HCAHPP scores and cheaper than surgeries from falls!

I have been working at Conemaugh Health System full-time

    Pros

There are guaranteed raises every year and a lot of discounts.

    Cons

Communication both within and between departments is absolutely abysmal (not including patient care). Service wise everything is done last minute.

I worked at Conemaugh Health System part-time

    Pros

Educated at their school of nursing. Had a great reputation for good care in the past. Loved being a home health nurse

    Cons

Home healthy agency was bought out by another company. Didn't want part time nurses. Felt like I was made to chose between my family and my job

    Advice to Management

In a rural area such as ours. Use your experienced nurses. A lot of very experienced and skilled nurses left their job's leaving many positions unfilled. Its a shame after all the years of service to have to sacrifice you job for your family

    Pros

Food in cafe was decent, but that started to go downhill too with all their money-saving ridiculousness.

    Cons

    Department Managerial Staff Completely Incompetent
They just wait for you to screw up so they can fire you and hire someone else way cheaper.

    Advice to Management

Stop accepting manager positions when you know you have no education or training. They only give you that title so they don't have to fork out the cash to pay REAL managers.

Good PTO benefit and best pay around!

    Cons

Health Benefits, For-profit organization, understaffed, poor management, focused on money and data instead of the patient's, employees, and the community.

    Advice to Management

    DO BETTER

    Pros

Great coworkers and staff! Great nursing staff as well who perform great patient care!

    Cons

Culture is old school with excessively paternalistic management. Lost most community physicians so locums are rampant. Most managers have little experience and without formal training - just fell into positions and are pressured to push, push, push vs encourage and mentor their staff.

    Advice to Management

Do something to entice our brightest physicians and workers to stay! Treat employees like adults and not children that need scolded. You'll actually get more productivity by using a collaborative approach, and encouraging professional growth and life/work balance.
