Pros

Great people USED TO work there, the company WAS founded on amazing values

Cons

They tout teamwork, innovation, and fun as important values to the company, but the only true value that is emphasized and drilled to everyone's head is PROFIT. None of those values are there anymore, and the same goes for the people who tried to exemplify these values everyday at Datacore as they were all either terminated or left because they were being mistreated or feared their job security. It's not about the software or the people anymore. The main goal is to sell the company and bring PROFIT to leadership and the board of directors, and it shows. Employees are now miserable and fear for their job every single day. Their fears are valid as people are cut all the time, sometimes for absolutely no reason and despite their dedication to the company through their roles and in other areas. Nepotism is all it takes to "succeed" here. Management has literally and explicitly said they are working to make it an all Indian company. Engineering is being taken over by new hires and interns that don't bring real skill to the company and disregard the previous hard work, sweat, and tears by those who have been working at Datacore for years. Pay is low, benefits are below average, time off is average. There is a policy allowing one day of remote work a month - why bother! - it felt more insulting than no remote work at all. There is no room to grow, unless you suck up to management long enough and if the company is still around by that point. They expect you to put in overtime because they make unrealistic software release dates for absurd software that isn't even selling. They are even desperately trying to get extra funds by offering tons of "lucrative stock options" all of a sudden. As for Dave - the CEO - he is very good at putting on a smiling face and trying to act like he is one of the employees. He holds "Ask Dave Anything" sessions where groups of employees can anonymously (or personally) ask him anything they want to. If Dave doesn't like a question, he doesn't answer it, and your concern is and will likely never be addressed (despite saying he will honestly answer anything). He also does this to dig for dirt and will hold things against employees. His presence has literally created an uncomfortable feeling for many employees, and his actions and behaviors only add to this. Don't get on his bad side, or he will be sure to have to fired!

Pros

Good health insurance Can easily coast and get away with not doing much work

Cons

If you are looking to advance your career, this is the last place to look. The current state of the company is very chaotic and disorganized. Marketing and Sales might as well install a revolving door because they can't keep talent. The Engineering side is in the process of being outsourced overseas because they can't pay a competitive wage. There is so much turnover in engineering that management is completely reliant on the staff working nights and weekends to keep up with unrealistic deadlines set by engineering managers that don't understand code. The HR department is a joke. If you say or go against anyone or any idea from the "inner circle," you are either ignored or harshly reprimanded. The CEO is a nice enough guy, but he is just renting his house near the HQ, so that when the company is sold, he can move back home when he is done. There is so much micro-management that we have 1 manager to 2-3 people. When you go to work, expect that at least 40-60% of your time to be spent in meeting after meeting after meeting. If I had to describe the state of the company, I would say that at an engineering level, the company is barely holding together and senior management is trying to slap lipstick on a pig to make the company look attractive enough to dump it off and make money from their shares. I can not see this company still being around if it does not sell within 3-5 years. Compensation is laughable at best. Company has not given any raises in 3 years and claims its not in the budget. Meanwhile, they have opened an additional engineering office in India and have hired over 14 people, while laying off or eliminating jobs in Florida. Management is blind if they think people can't see what is really going on here. The sad part is, it was not always like this. This company used to respect and value their employees until about 4 years ago when the new CEO took over and brought in an disgraced Ex-Citrix Senior Manager to oversee all RnD. From that point forward, the company switched from valuing people to valuing "measurable metrics." If you are looking for a job where they do not value your personal time or you don't want to make much money, this is the place for you. If you are looking to gain experience in your craft and want work that is actually challenging, I implore you to look elsewhere. Its just not worth working here.

Pros

Decent benefits such as health insurance and 401K matching Standard business model that just works Pay is above average Very predictable work day, consistent execution No work on weekends Bottom line: Workplace well suited for individuals looking for a stressless job where they work on their assigned tasks.

Cons

Limited learning opportunity Lack of role models or strategic leaders Minimal leeway for creativity or risk taking All decisions are driven top down, low empowerment Little opportunity for career advancement Annual employee reviews are considered a necessary evil by management Motivates employees with only one thing: money Low recognition for above and beyond effort Lack of innovation, purely inorganic growth In decision making, employees are treated purely as resources, not people No team building, team offsite, team events, nothing. Get work done and leave Bottom line: Energetic individuals who seek job opportunity to be creative and grow are misplaced here.
