I have been working at Elekta full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Cancer care is a very noble endeavor. Creating HW and SW that battles this deadly condition is something to be very proud of.

    Cons

Restructuring and adjusting to a global focus can be very challenging. This is made even more difficult from Elekta's current market position.

I have been working at Elekta full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Because truly, if you can stomach the management, the overall goal of patient care and how far cancer treatment has come, is extraordinary. Elekta has the product to be Extraordinary.

    Cons

Micromanagement at its finest!! Nepotism is key! They are a software company who can't figure out how to install their own software product. Onboarding process is weak and insufficient. You are not prepped for any project by a qualified PM. Sales oversells things order fulfillment cannot possibly deliver, timelines are underestimated, customers are rarely told the entire truth, and the oldies but goodies shine like none other when it comes to promo time!!!! There are no bonuses, no incentives, nearly null raises, unattainable goals, ever changing goals, so many client enhancement requests no one can keep up, nor are they even close to being a priority, yet the worker bees take a daily beating in the field because the product comes no where close to performing like Epic or others. Rely on hidden agendas, secret meetings, selective groups, and the good ole boys club to keep only the tight knit people together.

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring your friends, and their cousins, and your VP's wives, and soon to be wives, and then the son in laws. Get good product engineers and let them make a difference in the product. Give the client what they need.

I have been working at Elekta full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

People are nice, although for years now are fearful because it's been such a politically charged environment.
Good office activities, like crawdads lunch. Woo hoo, yah.
The Sunnyvale office is in a good location and has good, protected, underground parking. What a great perk, yah.

    Cons

Office politics makes the place not safe to share honest analysis. If you say the emperor has no clothes, you are outcast. But say everything is great and heads nod and you go on.
Weak managers in product development. It's hard or impossible to find who is responsible, the buck does not stop anywhere. Spineless leadership tries to make everybody happy.
Engineering architects do not understand that the record & verify product Mosaiq out of Sunnyvale is much more complex than our simpler treatment planning product. The architects have no coherent, realistic vision for the new product in development. The architects are lost, and so the engineers with no clear architect vision are building a patchwork new product that is not cohesive. Think Winchester Mystery House, I toured that when I visited, the new product is like that! Funny, but sad.
Scaled Agile? There is no automation. And the new product's technical debt keeps building. And oh yeah we will correct that before shipping in November. Riiiiight. This place isn't agile, it's fragile.
The engineering managers are largely weak and inept. OK there is one (at least) good one but the rest are a joke. And some have been (or were recently tried to be?) promoted to director!?! What a joke. Lower management is inept, middle management has no clue, and executive management ignorant and unethical.

    Advice to Management

Fix architects. With good architects you can build a solid product. With poor architects the new product is a Winchester house of cards.
Stop promoting poor people out of the way. Make the tough but correct decision to get rid of them.

I worked at Elekta full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I worked for this company for 6 years. This used to be a great company when the ratio for non Indians and Indian employees were offset. Benefits are ok, 401k matched at 5%.

    Cons

Everyone considered this company as Little India since managers from every department only hires Indians colleagues or friends. The product quality has deteriorated, you have people left and right coming out of India out of no where. They have no clue to what they are doing. Their resumes looks really polished but when it comes to the real work they are useless, all talk no action. Indian managers expects to have them trained by experience employees or else. HR is aware of this practice by hiring only Indians but they are powerless since they are scared of losing their jobs. There are way better talented local applicants than what Indian managers hires but it is a common practice for Indian managers to only bring in Indians from their own kind. This is a common practice for all companies but Elekta have also been infected and company is going down everyday.

    Advice to Management

To all the executives and upper management, your jobs are all at risk since the balance of employees of Indians will be far greater than the non Indians. The quality of the products is deteriorating and you can't do anything about it until you make a balance of employees getting hired.

    Cons

I have been working at Elekta full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

In spite of all of the turmoil at the company the people doing the work are dedicated and passionate. There are signs that executive management is trying to improve the culture.

    Cons

They claim to be working towards improving company culture, but they keep letting/watching the good people leave. Case in point, they watch several top software engineers leave and then they let the two people in HR who care about the people leave and they keep the two people in HR that excel at politics and spreadsheets. The home office is very out of touch with any office outside of Sweden, particularly the US.

    Advice to Management

If you truly want to improve the company culture do something, anything, to stop the good people from leaving. Do not let the people that care about your people and in general those that know how to improve the culture leave. Stop confusing the US for Sweden; it is obvious you do not understand the difference between the work cultures.

    I worked at Elekta full-time

    Pros

Very smart people working on a very hard problem. I learned a lot at Elekta and many of the people I worked with were among the most perceptive I've ever worked with, and I've worked with a lot.

    Cons

    Where to start:
    1. The Agile program management team treats anyone with experience elsewhere in agile processes as an enemy.
    2. A whole lot of people who've never worked anywhere else, or who've been in place for 10+ years.
    3. Apparently setting up a working wifi network is like rocket science.
    4. Truly mediocre benefits.

But maybe the biggest reason to be concerned: The HR people lost my visa paperwork. I finally got it by emailing the law firm that did the visa, but I gather HR couldn't figure out how to do that. So if you're on a visa, maybe think twice.

    Advice to Management

There's so much ego-stroking and hand-holding going on - all of it wasted - its not hard to figure out why nothing gets done.
