You HAVE to have a LOVE for claims processing
Feb 17, 2023 - Total Loss Claims Adjuster in Glen Allen, VARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- Work from Home flexibility - Work, Life, Balance is very important within some teams.
Cons
- Inconsistencies with how claim handling should be. - Management roles often change. - Salaries amongst the employees are not competitive. There are some employees that are making significantly more than their co-worker - in the same role. - Positions/Position Titles are often created for some employees, with no announcement to the organization of any recent changes. You just happen to the role/dept/position change on email signature,

Pros
Starting out in insurance it is a great start. Many opportunities for someone with no experience, lacks dress code, no salary pay caps, fun activities, stock payout, and awesome PTO. If you have never worked in insurance, this is a perfect start. You can move around the company and learn new skills. There is many team building activities, and ways to reach your career goals. This is where to go to broaden your resume. I will say the claims department manager is awesome, he will have your back in sticky situations, and works towards resolution. More recently he has given the excuse of why things are done the way they are, but it is slightly understandable. All in all I do approve of his management style.
Cons
Very poor communication with job functions that directly impact you. You will learn something the way you were taught, especially if you are an older employee, however the newer people do it differently. Many times you won't even know a new process is being done, unless you spot it in a file. Very poor file management from many adjusters, but they can't be blamed if they aren't held accountable for their issues. There is often some new "hybrid" teams, and they complete task that may hurt the file, and there tends to be excuses. There is constant changes. The sad thing is they cannot hold their own identity like they once did, too busy trying to be like GEICO. This is not GEICO, but most of the managers started there. Some managers are not approachable, and you may have a hard time getting in touch with a manager because of all these meetings that I am sure is a waste of time. Not sure why managers have 3-4 meetings a day. I have never understood that. Managers also don't know how to use all the systems used everyday to complete the job function. There is lack of mentorship like it once was, because claims has been turned into a call center, NOT a personalized claim center. RUSH to close claims, and it turns into quantity, NOT quality. Please also know that the salary is way below industry standards, but again quick promotions. Therefore, use this as a starting point, not a lasting career. I am not a fan of how they create random useless jobs especially for people who are on the verge of being kicked off the boat, but its the way to keep them there to find their potential. This is usually for managers, and it makes no sense. Claims Upper level management is not my favorite. I don't think I get excited to see any, except for one, and that's more because I like them as a person. The company is not profitable.

Unrealistic Expectations of Employees
Feb 15, 2023 - Anonymous Employee in Glen Allen, VARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- flexibility for some positions - ability to totally work from home - very casual workplace
Cons
- they were not honest about the state of the business (layoffs happened after the execs repeatedly said they were not happening) - unrealistic expectations of work for the amount of people per team - pay is under market for every position - leadership is not held accountable - managers made managers because of friendships they have with others - employees are not held accountable for their work, neither are managers

Great People but Low Pay
Feb 15, 2023 - Database Administrator in Henrico, VARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Relaxed casual dress code Post-COVID - mostly work from home. Depending on the department and job it may require some time on-site. Great PTO benefits. Management is open to suggestions Co-workers were friendly and willing to collaborate.
Cons
Pay tends to be on the lower scale. Depending on the department the team size could be quite small and you may not have a large pool of talent to learn from.

Pros
Job was not very complicated and there are many opportunities for advancement
Cons
On the Claims said it felt that management was constantly changing their minds on how claims should be handled so it felt difficult to get accustomed to any particular process because it would be liable to be changed within a few months. No opportunities for overtime regardless of workflow. Managers could be unreliable at times.
