Pros

You learn how to deal with challenges.

Cons

In my multiple years at AOS I spent a lot of time thinking about what could have been. A lot of time thinking if only this could be fixed or that could be fixed then it might be okay. They hire talented and experienced employees and then treat them as if they don't matter. The first sales meeting I attended Gary called his sales people "lazy bastards" because they weren't meeting his required 15 customer meetings a week policy. So I had plenty of warning that there were serious issues as his middle management team made every excuse in the book for his behavior. His treatment of his employees was apparently justified because he was such a smart businessman. WTH? There must be some unwritten agreement that when Gary finally goes then the middle management "bros" will inherit the keys to the kingdom. It is the only reason that normally intelligent men stand by and watch HR violation after HR violation. His super smart business practices have resulted in a pull out of Texas, Oklahoma, an ill-advised Cloud practice, and the list goes on. If you are woman and want to go to work in the OP office where Gary is then be prepared to have his coffee cup shaken in your direction to refresh for him. But no worries, this former minister treats several of his family members much worse. Eventually, the realization that the problems are systemic and can't be fixed finally motivated me to move on. I am grateful that I was able to meet lots of smart and talented people (now friends) that have also moved on. The good news for those still there and on the fence is there is much better out there if you look for it.

Pros

Worked with some of the best Design Architects and Sales VP in the industry. Had the ability to gain incredible knowledge in a short amount of time. Everyone who was in the trenches were very supportive of each other as we were facing a huge challenge. There were some great partnerships with forward thinking, innovative companies and it was exciting to have those in the portfolio.

Cons

No focus. Came at the market with out understanding that the "old school" mentality of sales does not work and will not work any more, especially in this market. As it is was proven. Account Managers were constantly held to unrealistic expectations and felt beat down to "sell more" AOS took on too many different partners and never seemed to have a focus on what it wanted to be. Although some of the partners were truly innovative and unique to AOS. There was never a unification of what our over all focus was. Taking away the momentum that was being built in a 15 minute warning to get on a mandatory call was disappointing to say the least. Especially after being told over and over that everything was ok.
