AMZL Favoritism and Nepotism for Good Money - Project Manager Amazon Employee Review

Pros

Pay is pretty good. Working from home eliminates commute. Working from home eliminates the need to see your (often unreasonable) managers. The light at the end of the tunnel, once the golden RSU vestment handcuffs are off, is quite site to behold.

Cons

Managers come from the same place and sometimes former (oil and gas) industry. Strange to say this, but rampant nepotism is commonplace at AMZL. They conspire to remove people from the other parts of the world off the team. The middle managers are often typed as "Yes Men", people managers and directors embrace this Amazon leadership principle: "Disagree and commit". However, they disagree by saying 'yes' to unreasonable requests from customers both internal and external. I've seen terrible managers PIP my peers into submission and retirement from the company before their 2 year vestment of RSUs, can't confirm their work ethic; so take this as hearsay and an anecdote.

Pros

Really smart people, a lot of opportunity for growth, always encouraged to be innovative, think big, and create something new. Competitive salary and benefits with other major tech companies. 100% self motivating work environment. No dress code and 4 legged friends are welcome.

Cons

You have to be self motivated. NO ONE will hold your hand and tell you that you're doing a great job. If you need constant affirmations from management, this company isn't for you.
