Pros

On the surface, good benefits and contemporary workplace environment...nice corporate window dressing...American Express will teach you early on what the corporate world is all about. As soon as you know more than your "Leader" or want to become more visible, either you will leave on your own or get caught in a re-engineering downsizing. Band 40 and above is reserved for corporate survivors...and they can be ruthless..The leadership incompetency is almost laughable save the impact on rank and file staff, who usually pay for it through job loss.

Cons

If you can lose yourself in the organization or develop a network of "Guardian Angels", you will be OK for the short term. Develop your political skills and be prepared to back the front runners. Learn to perfect the art of "bobbleheading". Just remember that, at some point, you will get thrown out like a bag of garbage...2014 Net Income was at an all time high of $5.9B, yet Chenault and Campbell felt they needed to send a "message" to Wall Street that they meant business by cutting 4,000 employees. 45% were ages 50 and above...

Pros

- Complimentary lunch and starbucks everyday - On-site clinic for basic check ups - Hybrid

Cons

you will be taking phone calls every minute of the day. There will come a time where you feel like at the bottom of the world. You will ask yourself "is my role in life to help people reset their password online and assist them in logging in?" You cannot use the bathroom whenever you want, they have time coding that if you "abuse" them you will be flagged and subject to discipline. You have to give world class service but at the same time rush them off the phone or else you are not getting paid a good bonus. You will quickly find yourself gasping for air and time to relax when you take 50+ calls a day , you will feel drained. When is finally time to move up there is a high chance you will be paid less than you're current role as there are no bonuses in higher roles.
