      Pros

      The Culture Is Genuinely Great: I know a lot of companies talk a big game about culture, but at AppFolio, I feel it's real. My colleagues are smart, driven, and incredibly supportive. There's this feeling that we're all in it together, and I never feel like I'm competing against my own teammates. People are generally kind, and that makes a huge difference in my day-to-day happiness. I Actually Have a Work-Life Balance: This is a huge one for me. I rarely feel pressure to work late or on weekends. The company really seems to trust you to get your work done, and the flexible/hybrid work options are a lifesaver. I feel like I have a career and a life, which isn't always easy to find in the tech world.

      Cons

      We Experience Growing Pains: As a company that is still growing so much, I definitely feel the effects of it. Sometimes processes change unexpectedly, and there's a bit of "building the plane while flying it," which can be frustrating when you just want a clear path forward. My Manager's Impact Is Huge: I'm lucky to have a great manager, but I see how a person's experience can really depend on their direct leader. Some of my friends on other teams have very different experiences, and it seems like there is some inconsistency in management styles across the company. eams Can Sometimes Feel Disconnected: As we grow, different departments can start to feel a bit siloed. I have times when it feels like my team is on an island, and communication with other parts of the company could be better. We have to be really proactive to stay aligned with everyone.

      Pros

      Frequent team outings and social events that help build relationships across the team. Generally a friendly, social environment!

      Cons

      The property management team is highly competitive when it comes to promotions, and I’ve seen BDRs remain in the same seat for years or eventually leave, as internal advancement opportunities can be limited. However, for top performers, there is promising upside, and you get to work with some of the best leaders in the organization. On the investment management team, leadership quality is more uneven, and there appears to be a lack of management experience, which has created gaps in coaching, accountability, and overall team development. As a result, performance outcomes have lagged, with the majority of BDRs and AEs struggling to consistently hit target. Team turnover has also been notably high, and leadership engagement only increased after a large portion of the team had already decided to leave, which by that point felt too late to rebuild morale or trust.
