Pros
If you have the right manager, you could have the opportunity to go far if you believe in your abilities, and believe in your product. It is nice to know that we are providing people with information that they will use for the rest of their life and will be able to increase their own marketability from these resources. We are fortunate to be representing something that is more of a "need" than a "want". The more this country falls into a recession, the more people are going to become more educated, thus needing books to obtain what they want at the end of the day. This keeps us employeed, which we need to be thankful for.
Cons
It's all about who you are going to "play golf" with at the end of the day. I have observed a ton of different perspectives while being employeed here. Some people think that you need a degree to excel here, while others believe that as long as you are in touch with the customers needs, you can be great at whatever it is that you do. Some people here will open doors for you rather than someone equally as qualified (or more qualified) if you know them on a personal level. I don't think this is unique to this company, it's office politics. Stay on the fence and neutral as much as possible around here (or anywhere for that matter) and you have the potential to go far.
