Pros

Citi is a Global Bank. The Service Officer role allows you to meet colleagues from around the world virtually. You act as a liaison, between the banking team and the backoffice teams. You are in close contact to Investment Counselors, Bankers and Banker Associates. In this role you are able to learn about different financial products and how to implement them. If you are keen on learning about finance and banking, Citi has great specialists that are willing to share their knowledge. The role of a Service Officer requires a lot of organization skills. If you enjoy client facing roles, this is the job for you. You are in contact with Citi clients everyday. This job gives you the opportunity to showcase creative solutions to client's requests or issues. It is a well-payed job in the industry (at least for Mexico).

Cons

The bank, as of today, is subject to Controls in several jurisdictions (US + Mexico). It is as bureaucratic as any bank. Employee development within a role is fast, but the possibility to change roles in a little amount of years are scarce. Normally another colleague has to change roles or leave the bank in order for new vacancies in the team to be available. The job involves high levels of stress (one has to find ways to manage this, outside of the workplace). Since the institution is so big, there are a lot of existing silos. There is no Onboarding Training in place for most of the new hires. You have to be proactive. The training each employee acquires is different; since you have to be self-taught. Or you have to look for mentors to teach you in their spare time (which can be difficult). As an employee, you are required to take a lot of trainings during your day (but you have to find the time to take them while multitasking).

Pros

Great collaboration between work groups. There used to be room for advancement and diversity in the workplace.

Cons

Lack of job security for several years culminating in a layoff after nearly 3 decades with the firm. Like many places, benefits, raises, and advancement opportunities diminished over time as the firm decided to offshore roles.
