Commerce Bank Response

First, thank you for your three plus years at Commerce. We appreciate all the hard work you put in with us during that time. We’re glad you were pleased with the total compensation package but disappointed that the rest of your experience wasn’t what you were looking for. In the past few years we have made some adjustments to our retail branches and transformed the Teller role into a Personal Banker position. Personal Bankers not only perform transactions but also assist customers with their other financial challenges. This does involve some sales and production goals, and this kind of role isn’t a fit for everyone. We offered training and support to make the transition seamless for staff and managers and we’re sorry to hear that wasn’t your experience. We’d like to hear more, please message us at jobs@commercebank.com.

Pros

None - the pay was well below what I was used to making.

Cons

You can include that if it’s true, but it’s safest to present it as your personal experience rather than implying a medical conclusion or making broader claims about the company. Here’s a revised version: Commerce Bank was the worst place I’ve ever worked. I came into the role with years of experience, confidence, and a strong work ethic, but I left questioning my abilities in a way I never had before. The management style I experienced was disparaging, overly critical, and unsupportive. Rather than feeling coached or developed, I felt constantly torn down. The work environment became so toxic for me that I ultimately sought therapy to cope with the anxiety I experienced surrounding work. My anxiety became severe enough that my healthcare provider increased my medication. No job should have that kind of impact on someone’s mental well-being. I recognize that others may have different experiences, but mine was one of the most damaging professional experiences of my career. I would encourage prospective employees to carefully evaluate the leadership and management culture before accepting a position, as it can make all the difference. This version clearly states your personal experience (“for me,” “I experienced”) without asserting that the company universally causes those outcomes. That makes the review both compelling and more defensible.
