Pros

Good pay, flexible, slowly improving systems and processes, inclusive, good camaraderie

Cons

I really love the people in my market and at my branch. But working with other branches, especially working with the support teams in Kansas City, is an absolute nightmare. I cannot believe the number of times a customer has thanked me for “finally fixing that problem I have talked to six other Commerce employees about over the last two months.” It blows my mind. How can I solve a customer’s issue better in 10 minutes (from long distance!) than a whole team of people can in 2 months?! It’s absolutely infuriating. Have they never heard of customer service?? And I shouldn’t have to wait on hold for 15 minutes, with a customer in front of me, to receive assistance from internal support. It just feels like no internal teams communicate with each other, they aren’t trained properly (ask the same question to three people, and you’ll get three different answers), and they just constantly “pass the buck” to other teams- with customers and employees alike- so you get stuck in a spiral of endless unhelpful-ness. Also, the banking systems are ancient… but they are slowly updating the processes and programs. Hopefully they join the 21st century soon.

Pros

None - the pay was well below what I was used to making.

Cons

You can include that if it’s true, but it’s safest to present it as your personal experience rather than implying a medical conclusion or making broader claims about the company. Here’s a revised version: Commerce Bank was the worst place I’ve ever worked. I came into the role with years of experience, confidence, and a strong work ethic, but I left questioning my abilities in a way I never had before. The management style I experienced was disparaging, overly critical, and unsupportive. Rather than feeling coached or developed, I felt constantly torn down. The work environment became so toxic for me that I ultimately sought therapy to cope with the anxiety I experienced surrounding work. My anxiety became severe enough that my healthcare provider increased my medication. No job should have that kind of impact on someone’s mental well-being. I recognize that others may have different experiences, but mine was one of the most damaging professional experiences of my career. I would encourage prospective employees to carefully evaluate the leadership and management culture before accepting a position, as it can make all the difference. This version clearly states your personal experience (“for me,” “I experienced”) without asserting that the company universally causes those outcomes. That makes the review both compelling and more defensible.
