Pros

Dish is 100 miles an hour. They are passionate and devoted to being successful. They will challenge you and provide you with opportunity for growth and demand that same passion and dedication from its employees. I grew a lot from working with this company for 13 years.

Cons

I waited three years to write this review. I knew I would be angry and bitter had I written it when my team and I were let go so I waited. I listened to the wind and hoped Dish would change... it has not. As mentioned in the "pros" section, there are benefits to working at Dish. But the unfortunate truth is that the pros are simply not worth the outstanding amount of cons. The company's sole purpose is to grow and be profitable. This is admirable. However it does so at the expense of its employees, not to support, grow, and assist them. I imagine I do not have enough words to list all of the negative practices and behaviors of this company that I can only describe as "parasitic," but I will do so until I am forced to stop. One of its core practices is to ask its employees to "Spend money like its your own." But when it comes down to it its not our money, it is theirs. We are forced to spend our money and get reimbursed for business expenses, travel all over the country and share hotel rooms with others, spend very little reimbursable money for food and traveling expenses during a very expensive time, asked to change our schedule on a dime regardless of our family/personal lives, and so much more. The culture embraces individuals who embody what I describe as "old school management." If you are empathetic, kind, patient, caring, slow to talk, lead with a servant heart, work for the benefit of the team rather than personal recognition... you will finish last. Every time. Every person I saw promote with done so for political reasons or because the stepped on everyone to get where they were. The ones that truly deserved promotion and recognition were pushed aside or just let go entirely. It was heartbreaking. Dish preaches passion and dedication but again, when it comes to them showing it for their employees it is non existent. I could list a myriad of examples, both before and after my time, but will instead share my own. For 13 years I gave my all to this company. Started as a technician, promoted through the ranks to an influential manager responsible for vital business processes. I will not go into detail to save my team and those who I respect from any harm. My team and I represented 60+ years of experience among the 7 of us. We were let go with no warning and no regard for our well being. We were not offered the chance to find other positions in the company. We were not given any severance. Our access to our work accounts and emails were immediately cut off and were not allowed to say goodbye to friends and coworkers. Leadership did not reach out to us... even once. I got minimal contact with my manager who I thought I was close with, but just enough to get me exited. Then their manager and above who I also thought I had cultivated a strong working relationship with never reached out to us... even one single time. Worthy of note. Our performance reviews were excellent. My center was rated among the best, if not the best in the nation. We were supporting a new arm of business when no other center in the country was. This was simply a cut due to the fact that they needed more money. So they let us go. There was no respect. No consideration. No family. No passion. No assistance. Nothing. Dish proved they were absolutely nothing that they said they were. They are simply a greedy power hungry entity that has no thought for those that support it. If anyone reads this review from Dish, I am sure they will convince you that things I have said aren't true. I am not here to win a contest, or to get retribution. I am here to save you are from the heartache that my team and I still experience when we think of what we went through. Please be careful if you currently work with this company or are thinking of doing so. They are not what they seem and there is SO much better out there.

Pros

Good middle management and compensation. Lots of opportunities to learn from plenty of smart people.

Cons

Disclaimer -This is all water cooler hearsay and opinion. During the two years I was there the bill came due on being penny wise and dollar dumb over the years. A great example is Sling. Dish beat basically everyone to market but Netflix with streaming and was the first platform to offer live TV via stream (which YouTube TV still uses as a selling point). What happened? Dish paid the original engineers to build it and then balked at paying them to document and maintain it. Same deal with the cyber security team. After years of expecting security engineers to do exceptional work shorthanded for middling compensation eventually they had none. It was all put on the security manager, who had a heart attack after repeatedly requesting support. He understandably did not return. Not much later one of the core systems was ransomed, and the company fell out of the fortune 500. Despite being in the middle of dealing with the consequences of those decisions leadership was doing it all again with the mobile network build out.

Hearing that you found value in our middle management and compensation, as well as the chance to learn from the talented individuals on our teams, is encouraging. We appreciate you recognizing those aspects of your time with us. On the other hand, the historical context and concerns you shared regarding executive decision-making, infrastructure maintenance, and resource allocation are deeply concerning. Maintaining a stable, secure, and well-supported environment for our workforce is of the utmost importance, and we take feedback regarding employee well-being and operational decisions seriously. We are continually working to strengthen our operations and better support our teams across all business units. Because this review references a sensitive medical situation alongside organizational challenges, we would welcome the opportunity to hear more about your perspective. Please consider reaching out to our team directly at peopleoperations@dish.com so we can learn more.
