Pros
The team that reported to me was full of talented and amazing individuals, who were equally mistreated.
Cons
A bullet list of the cons… • Lower pay than the role warranted • No bonus plan despite promises it was coming soon • No tuition reimbursement despite promises it was coming soon • Didn’t even pay for parking • As a manager, I had 120 direct reports which isn’t fair to me or them • Promoting my team members took a miraculous act. When I exited, one of my team had been waiting over 13 months for a promised promotion that was offered as a counter so he wouldn’t leave the company. • I was required to layoff team members by the dozens over a six month period, with no understandable criteria for choosing. It was so inconsistent and I had no control over choosing despite knowing my team members well, so much so that employees with excellent records were let go while those with performance and productivity problems were retained. • I was promoted 6 weeks after I started but with no compensation or title change. I did the job for over a year while waiting on the promised changes. Not only did they never happen, but a subordinate of mine became buddies with my manager and was promoted to the role I had very successfully filled for that year. • That same subordinate had been harassing and targeting me with vicious behavior and was promoted to be my direct manager despite my escalating my complaints about him 13 times. Yes, THIRTEEN times. • The behaviors worsened when he became my manager. When I finally had enough and would not continue to work in a hostile work environment, I was told I had to come back without any change to the conditions or find other employment. I found other employment immediately and suggest you do the same if you either work there or are considering it.
