I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Training, help attaining certifications, compensation, medical benefits, smart employees, global project opportunities, profitable company

Cons

Utilization metrics reign supreme here. Even though you get "vacation" time, you pretty much have to make up most time off in order to hit required utilization targets. If you do not hit them, you do not get promoted, bonuses, pay raises, etc. In fact, you will be put on a Performance Improvement Plan even though your actual job performance may have been excellent. Also, you must do a lot of extra internal Deloitte work in addition to your project work. Just keep in mind you will average about 50-60 hours per week when negotiating your salary.

Advice to Management

Adjusted utilization should occur when you have a client who will not allow you to work from home or be there when they are not there. The client works exactly 40 hours per week, so if you take vacation, have medical appointments, etc., you will not be able to make up those hours. Deloitte employees should not be "penalized" for circumstances outside of their control. Weather events, client time off, and other "rules" preventing 40 hours of billable client time should be adjusted.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Deloitte is a great place to begin one's career after finishing college. The amount of responsibility you can get and the exposure to key client personnel is amazing--it's incomparable to your friends in industry. If on a travelling assignment, the perks are superb. In my four years with the firm I have gained experience with all aspects of the software development lifecycle: requirements gathering, functional design, development, functional testing, and performance testing. Additionally, I have supervised small teams ranging in size from three to twelve.

    Cons

If you are in the Systems Integration service line of the Technology service area, and in Public Sector, don't even think about work/life balance. The firm becomes a major part of your life. The firm undersells their Public Sector contracts to remain competitive and ends up burning out some of their stars.

    Advice to Management

Before estimating prices for large-scale public sector projects, ask your staff about their experiences, including how much overtime they worked.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Entrepreneurial spirit abounds. Opportunities to work and share experiences and ideas with some of the brightest folks globally. Unbelievable tools and methods at your fingertips to make your job easier, your solutions better, and your customer's happier. A strong community of coaches and mentors who are focused on helping you advance your professional career, while still maintaining the important work - life balance.

    Cons

The advancement opportunities abound, but they will often push you out of your comfort zone to take on bigger, more challenging personal growth opportunities - sometimes before you may feel you are ready. If you are looking for someplace where you stay in the same place for years, this isn't that kind of job. You will travel around the country and the globe. If you don't like travel, probably not the best place to work.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work.
