Pros

Incredible benefits, company truly does advocate for travel and taking time off. More diverse than other tech companies I've worked at, specifically when it comes to women in leadership.

Cons

Completely directionless, wayyy too much politics and infighting about what should be prioritized leading to no progress. Leadership is terrible and provides no holistic vision for where the company is headed. There is a heavy 'shared responsibility' model which causes confusion and stagnation. Priorities change quarterly for seemingly no reason so nothing ever gets finished. The company just haphazardly hired people during the pandemic with no actual consideration about time-zones / effective collaboration which causes immense strain and long hours to make it work. There are zero commitments to deadlines of any kind for product releases and people seem aimless.

Pros

I really love working at Expedia. The perks and benefits are great and I feel like I have just the right amount of work life balance. I feel fortunate to have a manager that listens to my goals and aspirations and does their best to find a path forward.

Cons

I’ve found the promotion cycle to be quite difficult to navigate, with promises made and often overlooked. To get a promotion, you have to work extremely hard to get visibility across the board often outside your remit.

Pros

Constant state of transformation is ripe environment for new hires and functional experts from big name tech companies

Cons

Pre-covid the culture was really special. Collaborative, engaging, people-centric, with a unifying mission to enable travel for the world. Since covid there has been a revolving door of executive leadership, and with each round, they throw out the current strategy to try something "new" without building from the current or past successes. Constant change, but no clear vision or strategy of what they are trying to change to. Lack of strategy and low risk tolerance leads to too many priorities with not enough investment to move the needle in anything. Quarterly layoffs, but executed quietly team by team so as not to make news. No psychological safety. Talent strategy since covid is to hire externally over internal promotions to gain "functional expertise" therefore difficult to grow your career. Siloed divisions not working towards common goal. Lacks operating model maturity needed for a company of this size likely do to revolving door of execs and priorities. A cash cow company with an identity crisis trying to be an AI innovator. Build vs buy mentality slows them down. Too many exec pet projects that aren't vetted with proper business cases.
