Pros
IBM is a prestigious company to work for and it has excellent benefits, including up to 4 weeks paid vacation, a 401K, a pension program, healthcare benefitsm and employee stock purchase plan. . It provides you with opportunity to grow your career. Employees have a lot of empowerment. You work in a highly matrixed environment and with people from all over the globe. IBM's strength is its people who generally go above and beyond to service their customers. IBM is a well run, progressive, highly ethical business that seems to always find ways to be successful from quarter to quarter.
Cons
Although IBM has excellent benefits, over the years they have diminished. Exempt employees are expected to work a minimum of 20% overtime with little or no comp time. Everyone is constantly expected to do more and more and many people are getting burned out. IBM has also been moving a large number of jobs offshore (India, Brazil, Argentina, etc.) and this puts additional burden on those who remain in the US to train and support the offshore resources. IBM has been moving a lot of its IT support to US Global Data Centers in Dubuque, Springfield and Columbia and a lot of the US jobs have moved to those locations. Recently IBM announced that there would be no salary increases this year in the Global Technology Division.
