Pros

Indeed allowed me awesome flexibility, good pay, and amazing benefits that kept me at the job probably far longer than I really should have stayed. Worked here for 6+ years, before, during, and after the pandemic, and helped build one of their most integral teams for their service from the bottom up. For a while, Indeed would make promises and then keep them; it was great and built trust (Unfortunately that only lasted through the first part of the pandemic. Hopefully they can go back to this.) Bonuses and healthcare were also, ultimately, great. Honestly, the health insurance was the best, and the level of transgender care covered by their insurance was absolutely top notch. Their severance package after laying me off was also pretty good, but at that point I was joyous to leave.

Cons

The longer I worked here, the worse it felt organization, management, and promises got. Stability on my team and in my department was almost nonexistent– I worked here for 6+ years and my team went through a new manager every 9 months, partially due to turnover and individual career decisions, and partially due to constant re-orgs. Because of this, managers had no idea the work we were expected to do, and would have to evaluate our work on limited understanding. During this time, I was up for promotion more than once, but because of management and project turnover, I was never promoted in my 6+ years at Indeed. This is despite years of excellent evaluations, being the most senior person on my team, and still treated/given expectations as such. When I asked once what kind of jobs my team could expect to find if we were let go, I was met with a shrug by my manager, and no coaching was ever done to help people on my team be more employable. This affected my mental health greatly, which started to affect my work. On top of this, the managers were stretched thin and were detached from our work. This wasn’t isolated to my team––many teams in R&D had no direction or support. Through the Pandemic, Indeed was stellar and supported us/followed through on promises, but after the Pandemic they would renege on things they were resolute about in earlier years, and really ramped up laying people off. At first, the layoffs were announced and felt fair, but after about 2 or 3 rounds of them, they got quiet and would be sprung on us without warning, in-between quarters, and usually along with an entire re-org. This caused a lot of upheaval in projects, management, and partnership expectations. On top of that, as a minority employee, I (and hundreds of other employees) were dismayed when it was announced that DEI programmes (which Indeed had formerly been *stellar* at offering) were no longer necessary and the company began dismantling their spectacular HR department. By the time I was laid off (the 5th round of layoffs in 3 years), all of the creativity and joy of working for R&D had been replaced by AI, and I had already started looking for another job.

Pros

I loved the talented people I worked with; I appreciated being appreciated; I loved helping employers hire; and I really thought this would be the company I retired from.

Cons

The company culture changed significantly after it became publicly traded; I didn't particularly care for how they handled layoffs; they didn't always act on the feedback they received; and they were slow to jump on the AI train.
