Pros

I love retail life, it's truly about supporting HER and her shopping experience. Kohl's is about everyday families. They have two leading women at the top (one of a very few in the fortune 500). Base compensation is good. If you can dream of a new concept and garner support you can influence a project roadmap. Opportunity to try different things.

Cons

Most of the digital team sits in Milpitas, CA, far away from the Wisconsin HQ. It has the struggles of a satellite office, where you must gain agreement and alignment from the mothership to do anything. While I met and made many great friends there, my general experience was one of isolation. The office is predominantly Indian, in my time there I had 5 layers of Indian male leadership, all from an engineering background, there is a lot of nepotism that exists. If you are a woman or non-Indian this may not be the place for you because your growth will be limited. In my three years there, in the levels of Director, VP, not one woman was in the seat for my organization specifically. Also if you are not Indian you will be culturally isolated in so many ways, the celebrations, the food, not being invited to the lunch table, not speaking the language etc. Diversity is not a big priority for this place, but it would surely help this great company become greater.

Pros

Good full-time benefits, flexible scheduling. But the cons are starting to outweigh the good.

Cons

A new store manager took over the Massapequa Park location (Long Island, NY) and the workplace culture has become highly challenging since. Her management style is overly critical, and she makes harsh, rapid judgments without taking the time to know her associates or understand their roles. Furthermore, she does not lead by example, and she sets unrealistic expectations without providing regular check-ins or continuous coaching. This has left the staff feeling unsupported and neglected. There is also a strong perception that loyal employees hours are being unfairly cut or even terminated to reduce store costs rather than supporting the well-being and retention of the staff.
