Pros
The people I interact with across the company are second to none. Nearly everyone demonstrates a can-do attitude and genuine respect for fellow employees. Ideas that are put forward are taken seriously and received with all due respect and follow-through. The company is providing good information on the pending merger/acquisition of Embarq. People in CenturyTel live the company's guiding principles and are valued for it. Training has been liberally provided on new technologies and operating systems in a timely fashion. The annual employee review process is well developed and ties directly in to the corporate values and principles as well as revenue and expense driving business objectives.
Cons
The acquisition of Embarq is raising the level of anxiety. This is helped by the frequent communications on the status of the joining of the two companies and cultures. Still, these deals do not go down on the premise of adding to or maintaining payroll and benefit costs. In that respect it is no better or worse than most in the industry. If you come from a "small company" culture, the systems and processes may seem like a forest of silos at first. Trying to order something not in the catalog of approved items is not impossible but certainly not a user friendly system to grind your way through.
