Pros

Great firm for accountants and professional staff with exception of marketing department

Cons

HR leadership at this firm would often say, “People vote with their feet.” If that’s the case, the individuals comprising the Marks Paneth Marketing team — both during and after my time with the department — have voted several times over. The entire team from my tenure has dispersed, some even without another job in hand; some once-vacant positions have already seen their third occupant in the few short years since I resigned. A quick search on LinkedIn will validate the turnover issue the Marketing team faces. The disappointing part is that the issue is driven purely by poor departmental leadership. Even more unfortunately, the firm as a whole always struck me as an incredible place to work, with the exception of this glaring blind spot in the Marks Paneth Marketing Department. The accountant groups and the balance of the administrative departments were tight-knit, with numerous team members who began their careers at Marks Paneth and were truly fulfilled with their jobs. Without a doubt, the firm is at an exciting place in its trajectory and offers a ton of upside to an aspiring accountant or ambitious professional staff member — but again, with the exception of the Marketing team, where I personally felt suffocated and smothered to the point that I hurriedly left an otherwise great workplace after taking my own fair share of abuse, from which I still feel legitimate PTSD to this day. The team’s leadership didn’t discriminate either: I witnessed my senior-most colleagues bear the same level of humiliation and condescension as team assistants and interns. The departmental tone set from the top is just flat-out unprofessional and doesn’t lend itself to an environment of growth, exciting work or in the most fundamental sense personal and professional fulfillment. If you’re a job-seeker in the marketing field, I’d frankly suggest you look elsewhere for work — especially in the current job-seeker’s market. There are many exciting job openings throughout the region on professional services marketing teams whose leadership I personally know, admire and respect. You have the leverage and I’d hate to see someone settle for a spot on this team, at least until its leadership is reconsidered. I was inspired to write this based on another recent Glassdoor review on the Marketing team, which I encourage you to find and read. It’s revealing and should be taken into deep consideration by anyone looking to join the Marketing team at Marks Paneth.
