Pros
Once you have your foot in the door, the career opportunities are endless. They pretty much only promote from within, so you have opportunity to move up as long as you show you're sharp and willing to work hard.
Cons
Upper corporate management can have a tendency to shoot first, ask questions later, when making changes to store policies. They will sometimes hear of an issue at one retail store or get one comment from a store team member (sometimes even a part time employee, not even a store or department manager) and overreact to that 1 piece of information.
